Well, sort of. He can't shoot them any more because he has bad shoulders and they hurt him too much so he gave them to me in trade for some bills that my wife and I paid for him. I still need to enter them into my bound book.

Here are a few pics:

BOTTOM: 1927 Mosin Nagant 91/59, all matching

91/59 Receiver

91/59 Clamp-On Muzzle Brake

M38 Receiver

I have shot both and they are fun. The action on the 91/59 is buttery smooth! We used corrosive ammo so, when I got them to my house, I sprayed some Windex in the bore, wiped it out and then gave them a thorough cleaning the following day.

I now have seven (7) Mosin Nagant rifles in my collection!

I'm confused about the bound book part.
Your state law doesn't allow gifted guns?

Of if you are an FFL, you aren't allowed gifted guns for personal use.

Just curious :)

Congrats on the guns!
I'm an 03 FFL, which is a collectors license, and any eligible guns that I buy or receive must be entered into my bound book.

I was doing a little research and it looks like the M38 might be worth more than the 91/59!

From now on if you shoot corrosive ammo clean the bore and bolt good with hot soapy water right away. Windex works if you use enough to dissolve the salts. It's the water that dissolves the salts not the ammonia as some people think. Ammonia is good for removing copper fouling.
Always keep check on it for a few days after you shoot corrosive ammo just to be on the safe side.
Nice rifles I sure would hate for them to rust. I love my M38 and yes they have gotten quite expensive compared to what they use to sell for.

Thanks for the info, I will definitely take your advice the next time I shoot them. :)

Any water, hot or cold, or any water -based solvent will dissolve corrosive ammo salt deposits. Hot water just tends to dry itself out of the barrel without wiping. Same for soap. No harm in using it but it's not necessary. But you don't need it for any special cleaning ability. Windex is water-based, cheap but most of all, convenient.

I do have a question on ammo. I have some silver tip 7.62 x 54 and some yellow tip 7.62 x 54. Pretty sure the yellow tip is steel core but not sure about the Silvertip. My Indoor Range doesn't allow steel core ammo so I need to know what I have. Thanks in advance :)

I am jealous, and I am not even a rifle guy. So that's really saying something! Very nice and enjoy!!!
Thanks! :)

His M38 is much nicer than the one I bought. Maybe this week I will take a group photo of all my Nagant rifles.
