After I develop an accurate rifle load, I will swap 3-4 diff primers into the load & retest. Sometimes it helps, most times it doesn't matter. I have one rifle that & load that loves the CCI BR2, shoots into nice round 3/4" groups. Any other primer & i get flyers thT open to just over 1 moa. For an elk rifle, I am fine with that.
My long range rig is pretty good with any primer but does better with RP 9 1/2 over Fed or CC BR, not a lot better but measurable at 300yds. So it is always worth a few rounds to test.

Interesting. Never thought of this (and have not loaded enough to have had to use different primers), but I would guess case volume has a lot to do with it.

Not really. We are talking rifle loads, a primer swap can affect accuracy on any given rifle regardless of caliber.

More than the type of primer, is how it is seated. When I got serious about long range shooting, I learned 2 things: 1-. LRS is like golf, consistency is the name of the game. You try to eliminate the errors on the things you can control (human and equipment) and put more effort on the ones you can't (weather conditions). 2-. I should have paid more attention in my physics classes. The more in-dept you go, the more math you need to apply. I figured you need a degree in MIT to be real good at Long range shooting.

I just do t see a correlation, it seems more barrel specific. My 260ai, primers have only a modest affect on overall accuracy with my best loads. My 338-06 though seems really finicky. As noted it loves ccibr2, nice round 3/4" groups. Other primers throw fliers. Moving to a really big case, my 404jeffery doesnt seem to care what primer i feed it. With good bullets, it will shoot 1mo if i am having a good day on the bench with that big a gun. 1moa may not sound all that good but, consider the bullets are 42 caliber & a buffalo requires pie plate acciracy, it works just fine.
Yeah I get what your saying the older I get the less I care about rifles with very much recoil. I pretty much have gone to using rifles that I enjoy shooting for deer hunting and have not had one single issue with harvesting deer and hogs. If I can't go out and shoot it thirty or forty rounds and enjoy it I don't foul with it the kickers stay in the back of the safe. Lol
