As a resident of Illinois, this is definitely a big blow to all of the citizens of Illinois who not only support the 2nd Amendment, but also are just firearm enthusiasts/collectors. I will no longer consider SA or RRA as an option for future firearms. I would have to imagine their decision will have an impact on future sales.

I have to wonder how well this news is hitting the NRA meetings and convention that is currently going on down in Atlanta.

It is definitely time to think about how long I can remain living in this state.
Good luck on your move brother.

According to the articles, that's a lot of money distributed over a decent amount of time. As one article pointed out, it can be argued they were trying to buy access to anti gun politicians, but at what point do they realize they are not only not getting access, but are funding anti gun legislation?
Since a large amount of RRA's and Springfield's business relies on consumer retail sales, why are they doing this? Even if the general public ignores what they are doing, it still will make their products less accessible and more expensive to their base customers. It really makes no sense.

SA is walking it back. Back on the bandwagon!

Springfield Armory has always fought hand-in-hand with the NRA, NSSF, ISRA and many others for legislation that fiercely protects the Second Amendment, individual rights and the industry as a whole. Our fight continues today as some members of the Illinois legislature are pushing to overregulate the industry through Gun Dealer Licensing Act (SB1657).

“At the time of my initial statement to the media, I was ill-informed of the ramifications of this bill and its detrimental effects to the Second Amendment, which I have personally fought to protect my entire life. I can tell you now, we at Springfield Armory are unequivocally 100 percent against this bill and will continue to work with the NRA and others to ensure that it is defeated,” said Dennis Reese, Chief Executive Officer, Springfield Armory.

Springfield Armory, like Rock River Arms, was not aware of the actions taken by our trade association, IFMA, until after the fact. We take this situation very seriously and are looking into how this very unfortunate lapse in communication occurred.

Springfield Armory has fought and defeated legislation like this in Illinois for the past 15 years. We are wholeheartedly against this bill and will fight to see it defeated as the unnecessary and harmful overreach that it is.

I have a real hard time believing they did not know what this bill was about, a really hard time.

Now a check for $250,000 to the Illinois State Rifle Associate would go a long way to making me believe they are sincere.

SA's CEO Dennis Reese needs to take out a big ad in the local newspaper stating their stance on Bill SB1657 and how they are going to fight it . He also needs to call out the IMFA's compromise or their lack of fighting for everyone involved , from manufactures , LGS , FFL dealers and the private citizens .

unfortunately almost every manufacturer has, at some point, betrayed us. it's bull**** but shows they will do anything for some profits. however, this doesn't change my plans to boycott Springfield Armory and Rock River. honestly I have always found their products unoriginal and their fans to be somewhat annoying, so putting them in the garbage bin is no big loss for me.

I've had a couple of XD's but always thought they were cheesy compared to Glocks. They do make some nice 1911's but there's always Dan Wesson. Those M1A's are cool but ridiculously overpriced.

I had a TRP I got for free on their dealer spiff program, but I eventually sold it without ever firing it. I got a Saint under the same program, and traded that for a barely used USP45 Tactical.

I guess you can say I was always lukewarm about them and now, well it's no real loss to me since I never thought much of the company anyway.

Dan Wessons are very nice...I recently got to shoot one and I was pretty impressed at what it had and the work put into it for the $$ it cost..kinda like a "Semi-Custom" 1911...not quite a botique type one but id take one over lets say a Kimber or the Springfields.

Apology sounds like it came from a Democrat. We're sorry, it wasn't our fault, we didn't have all the facts, we take it back (now that there are consequences).

They can go to hades and beg icewater.

Springfield Armory makes fine guns. I think it's hysterical to watch the CEO try to back peddle as fast as he can to try to explain his incredibly stupid move. "Oh my, what have I done?" " I didn't know what I was doing?"

Reese probably hired the same public relations firm that told United to offer 10 grand for an overbooked seat after the UA chairman dropped it in the dirt on his first public statement that the passenger was at fault.

I'm surprised so many are ready to eat their own. The lobbyist group is separate. It seems SA and RRA have severed ties and humbly apologized. Of course part of me isn't surprised after being called a traitor during election season on this forum. Unfortunately, I can't put exactly what I was called as it's against the rules.

The negative reaction by gun consumers prompted another revised response from SA.

SPRINGFIELD ARMORY CEO DENNIS REESE STATEMENT REGARDING IFMA AND GUN DEALER LICENSING ACT (SB1657)

The Executive Director of the Illinois Firearm Manufacturers Association (IFMA) acted without our prior knowledge and against our principles and those of the industry as a whole with respect to the Gun Dealer Licensing Act. We no longer have confidence in IFMA and after speaking to other directors we have made the decision to sever all ties with the organization, effective immediately.

I take full responsibility for my failure of oversight in this case and deeply apologize to my employees, customers and industry partners for the distraction and divisiveness this situation has caused within our tight-knit community. Our industry has always stood strong and fought fiercely together in the past and I am personally committed to defeating this harmful legislation. To that end, I have pledged to the NRA that we will bring the full resources of my company to bear in this fight.

We are not new to this battle, Springfield Armory has fought and defeated legislation like this in Illinois for decades. We are wholeheartedly against this bill and will fight shoulder-to-shoulder with the NRA, National Shooting Sports Foundation, the Illinois State Rifle Association and others to see it defeated as the unnecessary and harmful overreach that it is.

We want to assure all Americans, like us, who fight to protect the Second Amendment that we and our industry partners will leave no stone unturned to defeat this bill.
