With your own money. Not talking about guns you received as gifts etc.
How old where you?
What did you buy?
My first (at 21) was a Browning Hi Power. This was a Belgium model 9mm, it was used. I paid just over $100 for it.
Never could hit the side of a barn with it. My fault, technique not learned yet.
Wish I had kept it.
What was yours?
In 1998 I was on assignment in Los Angeles and wanted a nice big bore magnum for hog hunting. Ended up with a used very low serial number new model blackhawk in .41 magnum with a 5.5" barrel. Carried on many hunting trips. Paid $200 and just put it on consignment last week.
I ordered a Dan Wesson 15-2 Pistol Pack, don't remember what I paid for it. I picked it up the day before I turned 21, Dad did the paperwork. Ended up selling it and, I think, got a Glock 21.
The first gun I bought on my own was a used El cheepo .25 auto for $20. Sold it a few years later for $50. The first new gun I bought was a Colt Agent in 1985 in my mid 20's for $200.
These were not my first guns. I was lucky my father would buy me a gun every year for Christmas
or my birthday. By the time I was in my 20's I had a little collection going on.
Glock 26, I'm not sure but probably I was 29. I had been carrying Uncle Sam's stuff for so long that I never felt the need to buy my own.
That was my first and only 9mm. I think I sold that g26 within a year and I'm not sure what I got next but I was more interested in rifles at the time.
The first gun I bought was a Remington model 514 bolt action .22 rifle in 1962....
I was twelve years old and paid for it with 5 1/2 books of top value stamps...
Stamps were worth about 16 dollars...or 3 dollars a book...I saved stamps for a long time..
The lady behind the counter at the top value stamp store told me to be careful and out the door I went....I got on my 20 inch bicycle and headed for the city dump...I had already bought a box of Remington 22 shorts at the Western Auto Store for 29 cents...Those rats didn't have a chance for 29 cents and the new 22 gun on the street...Those were the days.....
I traded the 22 rifle for my first handgun which was a used Ruger 22 pistol Standard Model in 1970..I wish I would have kept them both...never sell a gun...

My first gun was also a Belgium Browning Hi-Power, purchased in 1967 for $104, tax included. It was a beautiful pistol, but alas, was stolen in a burglary at my mom's home where I had left it when I was required to travel extensively back in the day.
Yes, that sucks. I was working at the local hospital as an ER orderly, and full time college student when I travelled to northern Indiana to a little gun shop in Avilla. Mine was used. Did I mention I was also newly married? I really didn't have the money to spend on it, but somehow scraped the cash together. When I got it out the first time, I put a tin can on top of a fence post on my friends families farm. Stood back a few paces, and could not hit the damn thing. My buddy took a crack at it, same result. I ended up trading the Hi Power to my brother in Law for a nib S/W p&r model 19 .357. I still have it.
Ruger Security Six. It was a .357 but the barrel was stamped .38 Special. A phone call to Ruger confirmed it really was a .357 and it must have been a factory error.
I was 19. My own money. Obviously a private sale due to my age.
Security Six .357 Bicentennial Model, in 1984 when I was 23. My dad has it now. I hope it's a while before I get it back.
