I'm fairly new to cc but have become diligent about always having a firearm with me. Wondering how many people actually carry a spare magazine with them?? Just curious thanks.

I carry a small single stack 6+1 so carry 2 spare 7 rounders at all times.
I haven't answered one of these in quite a while.

If I am carrying a G23, I also carry a single mag.
I suppose I've been trained that one of the most common firearm failures is mag related.

Generally, I carry a spare mag and a BUG.
Two is one and one is none, as Clint Smith is wont to say.

Do whatever you're comfortable with; I don't see the point of arguing over the appropriate amount of ammo/mags because it's such a subjective topic. Just having a gun on you (and being ready/trained with it) makes you more prepared than 99% of people.

I always have a gallon of water, some food, and emergency supplies in my car. Should I upgrade to three gallons, a weeks worth of food, and a trauma kit?

Most SD shootings, far and away, are resolved within the first Six rounds.

So, if your carry piece is a 6+1, that spare mag gives you a safety factor of 2.

But, if your carry piece is a G17, and your one and only mag craps the bed? Those 17 rounds in that high-cap mag are as useful as PEZ.

Always at least one reload. Very rarely, a second.

Magazine failure is the weakest link in any semi-auto pistol. I'd hate to have the base plate fail on my magazine or have a gun malfunction where a fresh magazine is needed. Any type 3 malfunction. Secondarily, I'd hate to have to use my firearm in self defense in a potentially hostile environment holding an empty (or nearly empty) weapon while waiting for LE to show up.

A spare magazine weighs only a few ounces. For me it helps to balance the weight carried. I can think of no reason not to carry one. Even when I carry a revolver, I put at least one speed strip in a pocket.

This.

I have one of these for each of my EDC weapons: http://www.snagmag.com/. (There are other products available but this works for me.)

Depends. I usually do, but if I'm carrying a high capacity gun I may not. Low power, like a .380 or less than 10 rounds and I'm probably carrying a spare.

One spare mag always. If you can't get out of a bad situation with two mags then you probably should have brought your AR.
