ZX10R question

    How much better is the ZX10R than the ZX9R? Is it anything like going from a 600 to a 900? Or are they more close than what the magazines say? Anyone rode both?

    If you are talking about the new ZX10, the difference between it and the 9 is like comparing the difference between a Corvette and a Top Fuel Dragster. The new ZX10 flat out runs 375lbs. and 184 HP!!

    The only similarity between the ZX-9R and the ZX-10R is the name. The 10 is better in every way.

    Well, on a dyno more like "only" 155-ish and with fuel around 430. Still best in class power-to-weight ratio. Being the most powerful and lightest will do that! I lust after one in bright orange so much, but the bill and insurance man says "NOT UNTIL YOU'RE 30!"

    I still miss the "old" plain vanilla ZX-10. Many fond memories.

    Its not hard to get the ZX9R up to ZX10 specs. I've personally been 180 several different times on a ZX9 and it still had room for more.

    I've riden the new R1 and the the new ZX10. The ZX10 rocks, the R1 seems the same as it was.

    The first big-bore sportbike I ever rode was a friend's relatively NEW ZX-10. Back in the day...

    The Dyno does not factor the Kawasaki Ram-Air, which does increase power output.;b

    ZX-9R is more of a real streetbike.

    The 10R is lighter, which will mean easier to flick around and has more oooomph.

    The 9R is going to be more comfortable and thats essentially the main diffrences.

    Are you really going to know that the 10R is 4 seconds faster then a 9R to 150mph?

    Can you really tell the diffrence between 78 and 82 ft/lbs of torque?

    Even on an open track is hard to make the most of the 10R, nevermind on the street. Either bike is going to get you to license revoking speed just as fast. If you really are into bragging rights, get the 10R, if you want something sensible and want to keep $3000 in your wallet, get the 9R.

    Hey, I am the proud owner of a lime green ZX10R. I Love it very much. I am 40 years old, and have counted the number of bikes I have owed over the years. 15 Bikes. Some dirt, some street. I can't compare it to the 9, however i can say it is a sreet legal track bike. More power than you will ever need for the street, Not fun on highway, Way fun in the canyons. Handling is very quick, and you need alot of restraint on the throttle. I would not recommend this bike to the casual rider. And yes it will do 100mph in first gear! It has six. ;P

    Hell---my Kawi ZZR600(full Muzzy and Dyna-jet kit) is all you'll ever need for the street(suppossedly tops out at 160 with the mods---had it to 120 and that was fast enough for me----once you get up past 90 or so---you're in a whole nother level of skill and reflexes needed). It gets up to 100mph instantly----not many places with speed limit that high----last time I checked.

    The ZX10-R is a monster---don't even think about unless you have years(YEARS!!!!) of riding experience------even my 600 will eat up a newbie rider in short order.

    True but Ram Air will not add 29 HP. It will add approx. 5-6 HP. Even at high speed the air box pressure doesn't raise very much. The 184 number is most likely derived from the crank, with ram air effect. Once everything is considered (for drag) 155 HP sounds right when compared to 184 HP.

    the dyno does not factor any of the modern sport bikes' ram air system. ram air does increase the hp, but not by much.

    LOL. Except for the fact that I don't think the KX500 is likely to ever see the speeds that ram air is working, even in supermotard form. :)
