My Mossberg 930SPX (standard stock) works for me. My back up is my Remington 870 Police Magnum, rifle sights, 18 1/2".

The only shotgun I ever carried in combat was a 590A1. They made us start carrying them after some dip**** ran up an one of our vehicles w/ a grenade. Just one more piece of issued gear to clean and keep track of.

870 Tactical (no mods). It is my only shotgun, so I guess that makes it my favorite.

I prefer the short barrel Saiga.

My favorite 'fighting' shotgunS (yes, plural!) are Remington 870s.

The 870 Wingmaster "Police" that I got at a gunshow. (LNIB)
    The day I got it:

I removed the 20" 'cyl' barrel and put an 18-1/2" 'IC' barrel on it, plus a Wilson +2 extenstion.
The 870 Express has an 18-1/2" barrel w/+2 Wilson Extension.

All are stoked full of Federal 00B w/flite control wad.
    (Patterns real nice at 21'!)

I guess I have, Rooster. The first shotgun the Army gave me was a Winchester M-12 with the perforated handguard and bayonet lug. Great gun...but the extractor eventually broke. They gave me a rickety Savage-Steven pump...an M-77 maybe? Then I went on an R&R and when I got back I drew an Ithaca 37, and it was flat-out the best of all. Light, easy-to-carry and quick to shoot and reload.

After I got back home and became a cop, I bought an Ithaca 37 LAPD contract over-run, 18.5-inch barrel, rifle sights with a Ray-Bar orange pyramid on the front. Carried it for 27 years through thick and thin. I retired it and replaced it with an 18.5-inch 590-A1 a few years before I retired. Still use the Ithaca during deer season. The 590-A1 is resting comfortably in a corner a few feet away loaded with low-recoil Federal Tru-Ball slugs.

I have heard this so many times on the internet, I have yet to have any issues with mine. I must have got a super special one.

I have heard that there is a possibility that older ones were finished better and that Remington quality control may have slipped. Things might be a bit spotty or there could be some out there from a bad patch in QC.

Do you think that just might be possible?

Used the 870 with the dept, but liked the action of my personel M500 better at the time. I probably took better care and lubed mine more than the dept did theirs, so that might have been the reason.

I like the position of the safety with the M500 better. We trained to shoot either L or R to maintain the best cover...both pistol and SG.

No combat experience, just some three gun and shotgun side matches. I like my 590A1 with ghost rings and 18.5 Vang Comp barrel. Just need to add a plus 2 extension and I'm good. wouldn't mind an aftermarket bayonet lug, only thing I miss from my 20" one.

The Kel Tec KSG is my go to house gun though.

Mossberg 500 series, including the currently issued 590A1.

For city/town type of PD work I can't imagine anything I'd rather have.

Probably would say my favorite would be my Mossberg Vang comp 500. but I would settle with the shotgun I have in my hand when the feces hits the fan.

I suppose this is hardly the "best" anything, but it's what I keep on hand -- a Mossberg 500 Marine with a Knoxx stock... :)

Winchester 1300 defender 8 shot 18 inch. Had it for years and it goes bang every time. Took a couple combat shooting courses with it a few years back. Now days it rests other than popping a couple racoon's.
