Get yourself a few of these big rat traps and nail them to tree limbs. Bait with peanut butter.

Under normal conditions this is illegal as all hell but in a survival situation anything goes I guess and this works really well; or so I've heard. :whistling:

I hunt squirrels on occasion on our property. Also go after coon too. It's good eating and yes, very abundant. Best part is I don't have to feed the critters... like I do with our farm critters.

Squirrels are just tree rats with fluffy tails.

They might be abundant for a short time.
Research what happened during the Great Depression.

I don't think people would be abiding by catch and release either.

After more than a century of unregulated and heedless exploitation, white-tailed deer and wild turkey populations teetered on the brink of extirpation in many states. Waterfowl numbers were at unprecedented lows. It seemed possible that once-abundant species, such as the wood duck, might go extinct.

Dogs and cats should be readily available after an event as their owners die or realize they can not feed them and release them to the wild. The rat and insect population that feed off the dead bodies probably will increase also.

With all the starving people heading for the hills with guns, traps , spotlights and gill nets, the available wild animals will be pretty much wiped out in no time flat. Only animals and people in the harshest environments would survive.

Theyre better than rats because rats eat garbage. Squirrels eat nuts.

Yeah...there will be plenty of people around.:whistling:

The woods will be a dangerous place - hungry, tired people, who never took a hunting safety course with guns shooting at anything that moves.
