I had a guy call me the other day saying his machine crashed after Win Update installed Xp Pro SP3. I asked "You mean SP2?" Nope, SP3. I asked "You mean Office SP3?" Nope, Win Xp.

I looked and everything I see says Win Xp SP3 won't be out until 2008, if at all.

    Am I crazy?

He might have some sort of beta release.

  3. There is a "preview" release of Windows XP SP3. It seems to be just a roll up of all of the current updates with nothing else added. Doing some Windows updates at the same time can cause problems. You can download it here

    SP3 Preview description
TheHotfix.net is a 100+ hotfix pack of many of the Windows XP SP3 fixes up for download
It's a 100+ hotfix pack of many of the Windows XP SP3 fixes up for download.

These are fixes that you would have to call Microsoft and get through their support center.

    Although
all of these hotfixes are directly from Microsoft, some have not been tested and may cause system instability. Use at your own risk! Visit our forums to find out which hotfixes have been causing problems. We do NOT recommend using a bulk installer to install all of these at once. It may cause system instability. Although it may be time consuming, a one-by-one restart approach is best.

    What's New in This Release:

    · change name from SP3 Preview to WindowsXP Unofficial TheHotfix.net Pack

Yeah, I saw that one, but the guy says that Windows Update installed it on its own, and I don't think they'd do a beta. He may be fibbing... ;)
