On a piece of music equipment I have to connect I can either use balanced 1/4" TRS input or balanced XLR (mic) cable.

Is one better than the other, are their pros and cons to using either??

    Thanks

I'd use the XLR whenever possible but I believe it is more important to use as few connections as possible. Don't connect a TRS input into a XLR converter if you can plug the TRS straight in.

    Craig,

If both are balanced, there is no advantage / disadvantage - outside of impedance matching / mismatching.

If the TRS were unbalanced, then that would be a whole nother story.
