Found out about this Officer today: Lieutenant Colonel John Malcolm Thorpe Fleming Churchill aka "Mad Jack"

He was renouned for using a broadsword during battles and he is the only soldier known to have killed Germans during the war using an English Longbow! :wow: He once led an attack byt playing his bagpipes, then throwing a grenade! If you saw a movie of his life, you would not believe it's true!

    Oh, USA
I recently read an article contrasting the leadership styles of the four 5 star fleet admirals of WWII.

    Whatever it takes.

If you like that guy, you out to read about Orde Wingate. That guy was a character!

Jackie Coogan, AKA uncle fester, was a pilot in the 1st Air Commando Group and flew Wingate's, troops, the Chindits, behind Japanese lines in Burma.

Mad Jack was captured by Nazis, sent to Sachshausen Cncentration Camp, Escaped, Caught by SS, Rescued by regular German troops from SS, escaped to Allied lines, then volunteered after VE Day to go to Burma to fight the Japanese!

I am going to assume that he used the longbow to quietly eliminate sentries.

As far as the sword, it was common for Japanese officers to carry and use swords in combat. It would have been interesting if this officer served in the Pacific war. He would have had opportunities to use that broadsword.
