I've recently inherited my grandpa's Winchester model 1200 16-gauge and I'd like to find out a bit more about it. Specifically, I'm curious to know when it was manufactured. I've spent a bit of time with my friend Google trying to find a site that will get me the details, but I haven't found anything yet. I came across at least a couple of sites (oldguns and proofhouse to name a couple) that will lookup by serial numbers for Winchesters, but they don't include the Model 1200 in their lookups.

Anybody out there have any ideas?

    Thanks much for any assistance.

Anybody have any ideas? I know it's not an exotic or anything, but would like to find out a bit more about it.

Well I don't know why they wouldn't include the 1200 to look up. The Winchester pump guns go roughly in this order: the 1912, the model 12, the 1200 (including the bargain 120), and the 1300. I don't know when the 1200 started and stopped, but I believe the 1300 started in the 80s, maybe early 90s. I'm sure a little more research will turn it up.

Yep, I've got that far. I know the 1200 was first made in '64 and ended around 1983 when they switched to the 1300. But I was hoping to find the specific year for my gun based on the s/n.

My first long gun was a Winchester 1200, 12ga with a 28 inch barrel, modified choke. Got it in 1967 when I was 12 years old. Still have it!
