i was asked to be one of two new members to my VFW's Color Guard. it's a four man group with the current two members carrying flags and the two new guys carrying rifles. the two new guys (myself and one other) and both Persian Gulf War vets. haven't met the other long time members yet.

the parade route is 2 miles long. we'll all pass in front of a review stand that will consist of the mayor, city council members, others of importance and television news cameras.

we'll be marching in front of the VFW's parade float.

    uniform is:

    white short sleeve dress shirt
    black slacks
    black belt
    black socks
    black dress shoes
    official VFW cover

we'll be issued yellow scarves prior to the parade to wrap around our necks and tuck into our shirts.

not to worry, i have numerous 101st Airborne pins fixed to the side of my VFW cover so the Screamin' Eagles will be well represented.
