Why not a pistol grip shotgun for HD?

    (Flame suit on)

I read alot of opinions on the Pg shotgun (no stock), and they are all bad. I understand a full stock is better etc, and I know this is not the movies etc..but when thinking about a one shot stop in my 10 ft hallway, I cannot see how PG does not out perform a 9mm, or even 10mm in every case.

Also, for the naysayers, watch Hickok45 hit his gong at whatever yards with his. And yes, I know he's an expert.

Hickok45 can hit that gong with a NAA mini at 500 yards.

Go with what you feel comfortable with.

Hitting a gong on a target range in broad daylight under zero stress with time to prepare is one thing, doing so in the dark, under stress, under adrenaline dump is another.

The major good point in a long gun is it provides more contact points with the weapon and makes it easier to aim.

Using a PG only shotgun removes that, and unless you have a laser mounted, is pretty much useless in low light. The only reason PG only shotguns exist for me is breaching or near-contact hit use, i.e antidoorkicker where it's literally 2-3 yards.

My buddy has a Mossy 500 with a folding stock, and I've shot it plenty of times with the stock folded (to simulate PG stockless). And I was impressed with how pleasant it was to shoot like that. It wasn't as different and I expected as compared to a full stock, and I know I'd be great with it in close quarters.

For any kind of accuracey or distance shooting, a stock is a must for me though.

After reading all the hate mail on PG shotguns, you'd think they were better used as a club.

    I don't buy it.

Go get yourself one and some 00 buck, set up some targets at hallway distance, and see how you do.

At that distance, there will not be much spread at all. You still need to aim, and either a shotgun with a stock, or a pistol is easier to use than a 6 lbs. shotgun with a PG.

Not saying it can't be done, just there are tools that are easier to use.

Take one of the most effective HD guns and reduce it's hit potential to less than that of a handgun. make it more clumsy than a handgun, and make sure it uses both hands to boot. what a great idea.

I tried it and that was the conclusion I came to.

i had one, no real reason why i don't use a pg for home defense.

it started as pg fore and aft. the reasen why that had to change was obvious on the first shot.

You two get a room, and bring your g19's with you. I am picking up a 20 gauge pg, putting a flashlight on the end, and mounting it on a rack on the inside of my inside closet door.

I posted the actual answer to the post and how it works. You didn't. You answered my question. You're compensated to post. Otherwise you wouldn't have responded. Sad for once was an informative site.

They also exist to make hollywood look cool. Just watch Wanted Dead or Alive with Rutger Hauer and you will want a PG only shotgun with a laser sight, I know I do. Yet none of my shotguns are so equipped..... hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm......:whistling:

Just got a "raptor" birdshead grip this week, will see how it works on my M500 and report back. similar to the one that hickock45 used in his pg mossberg video. looks interesting.

If it works for you, great. However...

#1 The comments on Hickock are right. Old dude can hit anything on his gong range with anything. I'm not that good, and he may not be in a real situation.

#2 If it's so freaking amazing why don't SWAT/Mil use it that way?

I will gladly take on anyone armed with just the P-grip version on any course (not really, but you get the idea) The shoulder mount aimed version will score higher, faster on most every target most every time. Not saying P-grip only might not be better for use on a submarine or somewhere - just that most places...no.

Speed and accuracy are the only things that count. There is always a tradeoff of one for the other. I think IN GENERAL, the p-grip trades way too much accuracy for speed. Remember kids - out of an 18" barrel there really isn't a lot of pattern spread like in the movies...
