Who here's VERY FIRST handgun (whether you bought, gifted, or otherwise) was a 1911?

Mine was, a basic Springfield 1911 bought in 1992. Options for handguns back then weren't what they are now.

For the bonus round, who's very first gun was a 1911? I had a couple shotguns when I was 16, so not I.

The first handgun I bought on my own was my HK USP .40 fullsize.. first 1911 was my Kimber UC II. Still have em both.. like the 1911 better tho.. the plastic fantastic just does not do it for me anymore..

My first hand gun was a 10mm S&W back in the early 90, I did not see the point of owing a 1911 because of its inferior ballistics; how wrong I was! After buying my first 1911 I realized what I have been missing over the last 17 years. Love the gun!!!

I wish it was my first :crying:

The first one I bought was a stainless mil-spec springfield. I had inherited 2 S&W revolvers first though. My grandpa had a Colt Gold Cup, and Id kill to have it, but it went to one of his daughters (my aunt).

First gun ever purchased was a Colt Trooper MKIII for duty use. First 1911 came along about 10 years after that. Current addiction reared it's ugly head about 3 years ago, thanks in no small part to you jokers in here.

Yep, mine was a Colt Combat Commander back in 1982. I've always regretted trading it.

The first pistol I purchased on my own was a Ruger p-89. The first pistol I fired was either a Colt Combat Commander or a BHP, don't remember for sure, I was a kid at the time.

The first handgun I ever shot was an M1911A1 courtesy of Uncle Sam.

The first handgun that I ever bought for my own was a Glock 17 (still have it). The second handgun was the SIG Sauer P220 American. The third handgun was the Tangfolio TA-90. The fourth was finally an M1911A1 (Springfield Armory GI).

The Sig 220 was the first .45 ACP pistol I bought. I haven't seen it in awhile because it's stuck in my Gunvault along with my 239. :steamed:

The first handgun I purchased was a Kimber Custom II, I had a Sig 226 before but I wasn't old enough to buy that one.

Wilson Combat KZ-45 was my first personally purchased gun, but my first owned gun was from my father, a Mossberg 500Haven 20ga pump.

The first handguns I bought came in a trade... it was a Gen 1 Glock 19 and a Sistema Colt 1911 made in 1956.

So I'm not sure if I should have an early loyalty to the 1911 or to the plastic...

When I was in high school, my girl friend's father got a 1911 from the DCM for $28.00. (that's right, twenty eight dollars). He loaned it to me periodically.

It was practically new and showed no service wear.

My Father gave me several of his guns, many years ago. Those were my first guns, It was a hell of a birthday/Christmas present. He gave me a an old Colt National match, another govt Colt 1911, S&W 27-2, High standard supermatic trophy, 2 Weatherby rifles one in 30-06 the other in 300 weatherby mag, an old 870 Wing master, and an old Winchester 101. He pretty much covered all the basics at once.

The first hadgun I ever shot and guess you could say I owned or at least rented, was a 1911-A1 issued by Uncle Sam. That was during boot camp at Parris Island Marine Corps Recruit Depot in 1965. Their accuracy left a lot to be desired but it was only firing for familiarity after all. Later when I became a granadier carrying the M-79 granade launcher, the 1911 was my back up weapon and I had to qualify with it. I have to say these were much better condition guns. I still own and carry a Springfield 1911.

The very first handgun I was given by my father was a used Hi-Standard Double Nine .22 RF and this was in 1964. It's in my safe. The very first handgun I bought with money I earned is a Colt Government Model 1911A1 bought new in 1968. It too is sitting in my safe. I have never been without a 1911 since 1968. Some of my favorites where the ones issued to me by the Army. They went along well with a M79 grenade launcher. Beat the hell out of carrying a M60 around, weight wise.
