Hi, it's me again with a new question. I am looking for an good defense l oad for my glock 19. Since 2008 the silly non jhp ban for handguns has finally lightend here in austria. And as I am in an shooting club, I can get the evil jhp rounds. Here in Austria i can get the winchester silvertips, speer goldots and the the federal classic 9mm jhps.

    and some magtech jhps

It would be also possible to get some remington +p 115 grain jhps.

Witch of these rounds would you rocomend for sd or would you recomend something else.?

I would be pleasesd hearing some answers.

    Greetings from austria.

    Hi
the 7th largest army in the world (NYPD) uses the speer GDHP 124 grain +P with great sucess. The Illoinis State police were one of the First Police depts in this country to use the 9mm, in the 115 +P+ configuration with great success also. The US Border patrol used the 115 grain +P+ and they were happy with that round. In fact the Border patrol has more Officer Involved shootings than ANY dept in the country. either round is good for your 9mm, shot placement and a sharp tactical mind will win the fight. Personally I carry the GDHP in my G-19 G-26 and my Sig 228.
    Hope this helps

Any of them are probably good. I'm assuming you're looking at target shooting, and not self defense/ccw... does Austria have CCW?

    I like the Gold Dots.

Thx for the answers. @indygunFreak Well with an special document, it is allowed to carry, but since 20 years it is very hard to get this special permition. For fun/target shooting I use s&b 115 grain fmjs rounds. I am looking for an decent short range home defense load.

i always liked the gold dots when it comes to .380's and 9mm's. I also have heard great things about Federal HSTs for the 9mm.

As soon as my guy gets another supply in, I'm going to try the Federal 9BPLE. I think it was among the first to really get the ball rolling for the 9mm and has a good track record..

If those are the only loads you can buy, better learn how to use your pistol like a club.

I have long used the Federal 9BP, 115 grain standard velocity hollowpoint.
It may not be the newest, fastest, and most expansive, but I have found that it feeds reliably and shoots accurately in my guns. It would take a lot of time and money to test another load as thoroughly.

That was and still is a good load. somewhere in my magazine archives is an article Mas Ayoob did on 9mm ammo back in the '90's, best I recall. He was attending an autopsy and the coroner exclaimed something to the effect that, "What sort of bullet was this? It looks like a rotary rooter went through this guy." Not an exact quote but he did mention "rotary rooter" I recall.

Are you able to use deadly force to protect yourself in Austria, if not why bother getting JHP's?

Out of those, it would be Gold Dots.

The Gold Dots have a good reputation for performing well under a wide spectrum of velocities and circumstances, I'd choose them, in 124gr.

tx787 yes it allowed to use a handgun for self defense.

@all thx for your answers. Then I will buy some gold dots.

ps: would you recomend the standard velocity 124 grain or the +p load?

I use the +P in the Speer Gold Dots for my G-17 but I'd use the standard pressure as well. So, either for me. As an aside, what was the reason that the government there got their panties in a wad over JHP ammunition pre 2008, anyhow?
