The alpha uses standard barrel nut, no additional hardware. I like the alpha a lot more than the 12.0 fsp omega I was deciding between. Luckily a buddy had the DD for comparison

Understood, but when one company weighs their rail WITH a barrel nut, and the other does not, it's not fair to do a direct weight comparison.

Nope,.......quality products, made from quality materials cost money!
Go buy a $49 UTG rail & see how that holds up.

    OP

Cost vs useability vs weight........the MOE is the best choice.

One thing we never asked about is shooting preference. OP, where do you place your support hand? If youre placing it further out toward the muzzle the longer the rail/tube the better.

Like FFA said the MOE is a great value.

That's the only reason I switched. I liked the moe a lot, but on my carbine length I felt very cramped. The 13" alpha lets me get out much further and it is much more comfortable.

  8. I vote for the MOE. If money is not a issue I'd go with something from Daniel Defense.

Yep those are sweet. The alpha is very similar. As far as DD it just comes down to if you like the standard quad rail or the more tubular alpha type rail. I didn't have a need for all the extra rail space on the DD and the alpha is about half the price

So I ended up going with OEM round handguards for now...kind of boring, but I'm going to upgrade as I need to, and try to have my skills match the quality of my rifle.

As a matter of fact I have one on and it has held up fine during run and gun sessions. I also use a carbine length Magpul and that works good as well.

"Fact" "held up" "fine" "run" "gun" "good" are all subjective, as in they vary from person to person.
