Find an older Springfield Armory 1911, love them. One from before the "loaded"models came back.

I was just asking what YOU would get to help give me ideas... but since you asked...

I want something nice for Carry but haven't ruled out a 5" model. I am kind of thinking about a used Colt Combat Commander, if I can find one. The only drawback to that IMO is the sights are too low profile for my liking on the older ones.

I want something that is a good deal.

I want a standard grip safety, no ambi safety, flat MSH, hopefully decent sights, in 45ACP. I may have to change something out, I realize...

Would prefer SS or Blued if possible, but that isn't a deal breaker.

    Maybe something like this.

What do they go for? I could go up to $1000 but I would prefer to have some money left over... :)

Pay $100 to $150 more for a Kimber or Sig 1911. If budget constraints then pay about $400 for a Rock Island and get some aftermarket stuff like Chip Power 10's, Wilson parts, ammo and a picture of an expensive 1911 that I can tape on the side to make it look cooler

    I wouldn't. I'd save more money.

Now this is a useful post. How about a SS CCC and have new sights installed. Maybe some 10-8's or Warrens? If you get a blued pistol, I'd do the " unthinkable" and have it ion bonded.

The Colt is going to hold value well.

Saw a Springfield Loaded with night sights nib at the last gun show for $693 plus ttl. STI Spartan for $669 and a Springfield GI Commander for $553. All were nice in their own way, but would've gone the SA Loaded for $700.

I picked up the new Desert Eagle 1911 C last weekend at a local gun show for around $680.00, out the door. I haven't ranged it yet, but plan to this weekend. 4.33" barrel, makes it a little easier to conceal, but not by much.

It was only about $60.00 less than the Kimber Super Carry, blued, with the 4" barrel, but after comparing both side by side, the DE appeared better made, fit and finish anyway.

Where are you seeing a Kimber Super Carry for $750ish? Those are generally $1,200-1,300. You mean Pro Carry 2?

You're right....it was the Pro Carry II. Dealer at the show had it for $709.00, before taxes.

That's along the lines of something I'd go with. Springfield or Colt would get my votes.

700? should easily with a little searching be able to find a base model colt -I'd pick a Colt long before the foreign made(ria armscor citadel springfield) or those domestic brands with spotty QC records (para, kimber) Of the foreign made guns both ria and springfield do have good reps for function
