Hi all - new to AZ and would love find a new place to shoot. In the urban jungle of Detroit I only had expensive ranges. I hear, from non-shooters, that you can head out to the desert and blast away. Have my dreams come true? I'm sure it's not that easy.

Where does everyone on here like to go? I'm in North Central, so somewhere out in that direction would be preferred.

  3. It's really not that simple. With all the cities stretching outward it is harder to find a place in the dessert that is out of the city limits and has no other restrictions. Up north is a little easier. It is legal to shoot on forest service land as long as you are far enough away from the FS road, buildings, and campgrounds. Also wherever you go make sure you are not on an Indian res, that would be bad. On the west side I have found a place that I'm 90% sure is legal to shoot. It's in the river bottom west of the White Tank Mountains. There are good backstops but lots of ATVs and motorcycles around. Maybe let us know were you live in the valley and more people will give you ideas of places to shoot closer to you. Don't take anything I have said as fact until you research it yourself. I would hate to be the blame of you getting in trouble.

33.685, -111.512 if in the east valley. If in Chandler or tuwkee, consider the Casa Grande public range.

If you are in the East Valley, take a look HERE

I confirmed the following with the Tonto Basin Ranger District. Much of the land in the Tonto National Forest is open for Recreational Shooting. If you drive down the Apache Trail, and get past 33 32.224 111 27.101 you can go shooting pretty much anywhere on the NORTH side of the road. Just remember to be far enough away from the road, have a mountain as a backstop, shoot away from the road, and clean up after yourself.
