I'm trying to find a good personal defense ammo for my S&W 60 2".

Right now I have Buffalo Bore 38 +p 158 gr and Hornady Critical Defense .357 125 gr. I also have a box of Remington Express 158 gr for practice ammo.

While I'm shooting some ammo anyone have recommendations?

The BB is good stuff. Snappy recoil, but delivers the goods.

With the 60, at 21 ounces, you can get pretty hot with the ammo. Airweights at 15, and the titanium's at 13 will make you pay for it.

I've got a pair of model 36's, depending on whose counting, me or my daughter.. one nickel and one blued, both walnut roundbutt and 3" barrels..And 158 grain +P LSWCHP has been my favorite defensive ammo since forever. It is as good a balance as you're going to get between recoil and impact inside SAAMI specs. Hornady short barrel is likely next, Buffalo Bore I wouldn't shoot in old 38's, nor the 'FBI' loads either unless it was critical. I wouldn't practice much with full bore ammo cause they ain't makin' any more of them guns, and I want to keep shooting 'em. I wish I had half a dozen so I could afford to plum wear one out.

There's no point in improving on perfection. A 3" J frame @ 5 o'clock is one of the few ways to hide a minimally adequate self defense gun on a *real* skinny guy, and that soft lead bullet don't do diddley against auto glass, so shoot people appropriately, after proper identification and determination of intent, and not at random windshields...

And I'm too committed to swap over from revolvers now that I've started thishere home for retired smiff's, sort of a veterans home..:whistling:

but it is faintly possible a guy down on his luck that didn't care much could gimme a 3913 too cheap. If he tried. For cash. 24 hour service.

Is the short barrel ammo worth trying, like Speer and BB short barrel tactical? I'm not that recoil sensitive although my buddies 360 is pretty annoying the 60 weighs almost double and has a better grip for my hand. Id like to try some .357 with lighter blast and report. I bought this Hornady Critical Defense but I havent tried it yet. Im worried about low light blast situation.

  9. i like the .357 135grn. Gold Dot Short Barrel out of my j frame. i ran some full power loads over the chrony and i don't think the velocity from full power mags out of a snub is worth the blast and recoil.

SOme old school rounds just get it done. The Win or RP 158grLSWCHP+P is one of those.

The Hornady Critical Defense was nice. I might make that my SD load. It was light on the blast and the bullet itself is good.

I have used the Critical Defense ammo, but I don't care for the lightweight bullet, low penetration and low POI compared to better loads.

Better performance out of the .357 XTP 125 or 158 gr? Ive got a friend with a bunch of Hornady ammo and he just gives it to me.

I read that the Remington Express .38 +p LSWCHP was actually a good defense round and thats what I shoot when I go out and get my gun dirty.

357 or 38+p Gold Dot Short Barrel and R38S12 Remington 158gr LSWCHP.

Any of you guys looking for the Short Barrel 357 round? I've found some in stock. Nice price, too.
