Any opinions/experiences with S&W's offerings? I've researched the crap out of numerous brands, but (stupid me) I didn't even know S&W made 1911s until RIGHT NOW.

These things any good? Because aside from the FCS and the legalese on the frame, THIS THING is pretty damn attractive, as is the price tag.

People who have 'em seem to like 'em.

The firing pin safety and external extractor kill any chance of me ever wanting one.

I just purchased one and seem impressed with the fit and accuracy of the firearm. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another. It was my first 1911 and I'm hooked now.

I've got two SW1911's, one stainless, and one scandium. Both have been flawless and are great shooters.

These new Enhanced versions lack the Schwatrz firing pin safety system. These use a Titanium firing ping and a extra strength firing pin spring. The external extractor is also oversized.

Ive problem looked at a dozen or more S&W 1911's and I'm impressed. I'm hoping this year to buy a Gunsite Model.

I went to Tom Givens Combative Pistol I & II in 2005 or 2006. He was using one then. I've seen emailed Tom about S&W 1911. He said that he hasn't had a problem with his. Also his wife is carrying a Gunsite Model. She's very happy with it.

I like them quite a bit, actually.

The Performance Center models are outstanding.

I've heard nothing but good, but the FCS and EE are not my bag.

I like a 1911 better without them, but they don't bother me much.

The 1911 PD 5 inch is one of my favorite 1911's. The Scandium frame feels great and it has been a reliable shooter for me.

I own one and love it. The slide stop broke with in the firs 10 rounds, but Smith had me a new one in a couple of days, no questions asked. I kept that one in reserve and replaced it with a Brown. Hey, anybody can get a bad part and Smith's customer service was spectacular.

    Beyond that absolutely no issues.

    Here's mine.

I got it brand new for $579 during S&W's $100 rebate in the spring of '08.

Yeah, it was an awesome deal.

A local shop was selling them at a discounted $679 and the rebate really helped.

Of course, it was about $725 OTD at the shop after tax and fees, but I got my rebate a few weeks later. :)

Can't blame you there. You can't pass up a deal like that.
