What version of photoshop do you guys use for photo work? If you use something else, what is it.

Where is the best price for what you use?

    Thanks

  2. Photoshop Elements 2.0. It came with my scanner and does all I need (granted, my needs are limited).

It's a heck of a lot cheaper than the full version as well.

"The Gimp" is free and a windows version is available, but i find it very hard to use.

i used to use Macromedia's Fireworks.

Look for Microsoft Digital Image Pro 9 to be on clearance. Version 10 is coming out right now. Not quite photoshop, but not bad.

  5. I also use Photoshop Elements. It was $50 stand alone, and it will do better than 90% of the $700 full Photoshop capabilities.

    Thanks everyone.

I'm still new to this, where is the best place to buy the software.

  7. Apparently you have not used Photoshop too much if you say Elements will do better than the full version. I have been using PS since v 3.1. Currently I have CS(v8) and will be looking forward to seeing a friends copy of the new Beta (v9) soon.

If you need pro type work, get the full version. Adobe pretty much dictates what you will find for pricing (there is no mark up, yes I sell the it so I know) You should find it for about 599.00. If you are just doing web and hobby stuff, Elements should be fine.

  8. Buy an old version of photoshop on ebay. Like 6.0, then download the patches from adobe.
You should be able to get at a fraction of the cost of the new version and you'll be able to do way more than whatever free jusk comes with the camera or scanner.

  9. I've been using Paint Shop Pro 5, 7 and now 8.
    It works good.
Has far more features than I know how to use.

PSP 8 can be downloaded for a full feature 60 day trial.

i used to use PSP around version 4 or so. it is good software, and i believe it's cheaper than photoshop. it's worth checking out.

  11. If you are an academic user, check with your IT department. They may have site licenses that you can get for a nominal media fee (typically 5 dollars).
