What to do when your firing pin safety comes apart?

In taking apart my slide, the spring came out of my firing pin safety. As it once fit in very tightly, the spring now fits back in loosely from either end. Will this have any effect on the gun? I have heard that there is a specific end of the spring you need to put back in, but this may just be speculation.

Push the spring into the safety and give the safety a clockwise turn while putting pressure on the spring. It will "re-attach" itself to the safety. Either end of the spring will work just fine.
