This combination has worked for me also, for the last 40 years. I have in the past ventured down other paths but always returned to the Unique/2400 philophisy ........

I have tried all the various bullet weights also, now it is 110 Grain+p Corbon DPX for snubbies & 158 Grain+p LSWCHP in all other .38 Specials for Defensive Carry in Urban areas, .357 Magnums get 140 Grain DPX for all carry. ALL practice ammunition is personally cast 158 Grain SWC over 5.0 Grain of Unique for the .38s & 13.5 Grains of 2400 for .357s.

FWIW, I live smack dab in the middle of the Condor Zone in the Southern Sierras, so any venture away from the cabin into the back country entails Lead Free in carry guns, including long arms .... ( To Avoid Conflict with the Fish Cops .... ) YMMV

    :wavey:

P.S. I have aquired a good quantity of both 110 Grain & 140 Grain Barnes DPX Projectiles and am experimenting with AA#9 in both calibers ..... so far it has been positive, though all my carry ammo is still Factory at this point.

So with a 110 grain Sierra bullet will Unique, Universal, Winchester 231, HP-38, 2400 work well for 357 magnum in the j frame? I have tons of 110 grain sierra hollowpoints that Id like to get shot up.

I think I would stay away from 2400 with the 110 grain bullets.

Not a reloader, so I'm not claiming to know.....but what is the collective opinion on Power Pistol?
I've seen some compelling arguments that it's the way to go in top end .38sp loads.

    :dunno:

Power Pistol is a tiny bit slower powder than unique. Used primarily for pistol loads. Does not seem to get much love for revolver loads. I like PP myself. Data for .38 and .357mag for PP is not plentiful.

I recognize velocity may not be everything the OP is seeking, but lots of guys trying to duplicate loads like the Buffalo Bore +p stuff are getting close with PP. I recall Brian Pearce in the handloading magazine had some pretty stout .38sp within safe pressures.
Again, I'm no reloader , just wondering if PP fits in the discussion.

Would not surprise me really. PP is a very good powder for mid to max loads in pistol cartridges. Although I have used it with success with light loads. I even use it in .380. Meters well and burns pretty darn clean. Downside is it is a flashy powder.

What about all of the others I mentioned? Unique, Universal, Winchester 231, HP-38. (110 grain Sierra bullet in a J frame)

7.5 grains WSF in .357 magnum is a good load pretty accurate as well!

Trail Boss is mild for just plinking. It is bulky too so not much chance of a double charge.

Sorry I stole your thunder. Didn't check the context. You did say you didn't know.

I've had good results with 6gr of PP under a 135gr SB Gold Dot per Speer's recommendation. It's +P.

Power Pistol? How do you think that would do in the J frame?
