I've heard a couple of times mentioned, but am wondering why is someone considered snob just because they refuse to buy a 1911 with MIM parts, FPB, or they think that certain 1911s are just better than others.

I dont consider the things you listed to be a 1911 snob. Personally i dont consider someone with 20 custom 1911's a snob. They just have the funds and know what they like. A snob is defined by there personality being cocky or thinking there opinion is absolute fact. An example would be, someone saying that a 1911 was a much superior design and model to say the glock platform and that glocks are junk compared to Wilson. That is a personal opinion not fact, and when someone tries to pass it off as fact they then become a 1911 snob

I know you are kidding, I actually thought of Bac as being one who is very neutral since he owns 1911s from the whole spectrum - cheapest in price to the exotics. It appears to me that is some sort of self justification (when not kidding) when one refer to others as snob.

I agree. You personal preferences do not make you a snob. I think that having a superiority complex about your preferences make you a snob.

This is an easy one. A 1911 snob is someone who does not recognize the greatness of John Browning's best pistol design. The BHP.

No muss, no fuss. A great shooter out of the box without a multitude of upgrades to get the damn thing to work properly.:tongueout:

Go ahead and flame me now. You know I have not spoken with forked tongue.:wavey:

Actually, going by the OP's description, I'm very far from a 1911 snob. ;)

Heck, I bought an AMT Hardballer for crying out loud.

Well, we true aristocratic elitest afficianados of the truely fine 1911, must look down our nose at the slack jawed troglidytes who insist on purchasing inferior "guns". If, for some reason, my good man, the "Eddie punch clocks" and "Joe six packs" out there, insist on calling us "snobs", then so be it. Now, I must be off, as my Rolls Royce awaits me on my trip to the gun range. Onward Geeves. To the gun gun range.

Browning actually didn't have much to do with the Hi-Power since he died 9 years before it was finalized. Many people believe that he "corrected" the flaws in the 1911 with the P-35...and one of the most apparent changes is the lack of a grip safety. The grip safety is absent on the pistol because the people who were paying the bills didn't specify one. If they had, you can bet the farm that the Hi-Power would be wearing one today.

Bac can't be a snob. He owns a Hi-Point for crying out loud. That disqualifies him immediately.

Just when I was ready to call bac a snob someone has to bring up the Hi Point. Sorry bac, that picture of the Hi Point alone kills it for you.

I want a family photo with the Hi Point and the Hardballer......

  20. I think we have drifted away from the original question.
I... was a 1911 snob at one time.
I believed that the 1911 was THE only gun worth having and carrying for S.D.
I believed that the 1911 was the finest designed firearm of all time and nothing else needed to be made or continued to be made. Scrap them all and melt em into 1911's.
I refused to even look at or consider another handgun over the beloved 1911.
Now, when I grew up and got into firearms the 1911 was the gun to judge all others by.
Nothing in my opinion, and many other's opinions comparred in quality or function.
It is only in the last two or three years that I have learned to appreciate the Glock design.
    I carry a 21SF now even though I still love my 1911's.
    I was a 1911 snob. I am not anymore.
Damn... feel like I just went through AA for guns.
