What if Romney wins the election and Obama refuses to give up power?

Just a question that has been at the back of my mind. I could see him doing it.

I can't believe people actually think about this seriously. What do you think would happen? Everyone else would go about the work of transition. Obama can sit there and spin if he wants.

I've heard the same question since Clinton was president. Hasn't happened yet, maybe partially because we have an apolitical military. If he tried, he'd be laughed out of the White House.

I wouldn't worry about it until it looks inevitable. No need to worry about something that's not going to happen.

What if Romney wins the election and then decides he doesn't want the job?

What if they both get struck by lightening at the same time?

He would have to have a monolithic government. The secret service would not support him. As CD mentioned the military wouldn't recognize him. The Dims would then be a laughing stock of a party... wait, that's already the case!

    I agree. Fugetaboudit!

I don't believe it will happen. However, I bet he has given it thought. I have co-workers who have commented that Obummer should be made king.

What if Romney wins and Obama runs out onto the lawn, turns into a bat and flies away?

This. We're not that far gone over the leftist cliff. Very few when push comes to shove will hang their butt out on a line to save a lying commie like Obama.

The COTUS is clear about succession. When the election is certified, the path is clear for Zero to leave. If he bucks Transition and is uncooperative, Romney will build his team without him. The day comes and Romney is sworn in…it would look pretty undignified for the military or the new AG designate to come to the WH to arrest Obama and forcibly evict him. Everybody knows the drill and no one is going to help Zero maintain power and ignore an election. The people themselves will be down there with torches and pitchforks.

You have to rfemember that Obama was just some black ward organizer in part of Chicago. Not well paid not very significant but had the gift for making speeches while saying nothing. So he talks himself into the Senate or Congress and from there into the Presidency before he has to face re-election. He is now worth many millions by some unexplained process and will have respect from many as an ex-president, a permanent armed guard and a huge pension. What a difference in less than a decade. He isn't going to even try to hang onto power illegally and give up all that.

And Obama will receive Secret Service protection for 10 years after he leaves office. I would not want that detail.

He doesn't have any power. The position does, and when the position is gone, so is the power. It's not a transition that can be refused.

I do believe that the military and the Guards are just waiting for an execuse to eject current WH tenant. When your brothers were left to die in Benghazi, you have a reason to throw out the squatters.

The appropriate course of action would be to:
    - Take the oath of office
    - Resign
    - Allow the VP to take over

Anything else would result in chaos as the Dems would try and leverage the situation to get their guy in. . .
