What if GLOCK did make a 1911/GLOCK hybrid?

I wonder why GLOCK doesn't do their own take on the 1911. They could make a gun that is styled like a 1911, but with the familiar GLOCK staples, the easy takedown system they have, the trigger, a captive recoil spring... heck, why not all that with an HK double recoil whatchyacallit setup?

I wonder if they've even considered it. It's a no brainer. At least put out a prototype and see what the reaction is. I know that Photoshopped GLOCK 1911 caused a stir, but what if they kind of GLOCKified a 1911?

At what point in time does a 1911 stop being a 1911? If it is striker fired, double action, different grip angle? What about if the frame is polymer? How about if there is no hammer or no thumb safety?

You seem to get hung up on styling and photoshopping.

Glock: rotating trigger, triggerbar, connector, triggerbar pulls back and releases striker. Nothing in the backstrap.
1911: horizontal twin triggerbars, sear, hammerspring in the backstrap, hammer whacks firing pin.

Takedown mechanism logically follows from the interaction between firecontrol parts in the receiver and the slide. You cant transplant a glock take down to the 1911s firecontrols.

If you are interested in a doublestacked polymer gripped gun with an 1911 upper, there already exists such a weapon: the 2011 platform from STI and SVI and in a slightly different form, the Israeli Bul M5.

While it is a cool concept, record sales surely have their production maxed out. Every second they have to shut a line down for maintenance or any other reason, they lose tons of money.

There is no way they would consider building something so different from the rest of their offerings unless there was enough demand to justify building a new production line.

Plus, right now they are pretty much offering 1 gun, in 5 different sizes and a bunch of different calibers. They have never been shown to be able to make any other gun design, and really, why would they?

Wow, that is a stretch. Glock had nothing to do with the Military replacing the 1911 and from the 1911 sales, from a multitude of manufacturing, you have a very weird definition of "killed".

Kimber tried a polymer 1911 and that went nowhere fast.

If Glock made a 5" G36 with a full grip I'd probably buy one, but I'm a Glock slut.
