I know of one that was using WW, and another that was using WW, but switched to Speer ammo later. The WW was 230 gr. Not sure about the Speer.

The most popular GAP ammo used by L.E. Agencies is the Speer 200-gr Gold Dot.

Danny - I assume they are using the Law Enforcement (LE) Gold Dots rather than the Personal Protection. Do you know how the rounds compare, ie. velocity, projectile, etc.

there are no differences in the ammo itself, the difference is the way it's packaged. the personal protection is for civilian use and comes in the 20 round package. the law enforcement is for le use and comes in the 50 round package. that's the only difference.

Just did a little research on this topic:
Speer Personal Protection (#23978) 200gr GDHP - velocity at muzzle 970fps.
Speer Law Enforcement (#53978) 200 gr. GDHP - velocity at muzzle 1020fps.

So, seems that PP and LE Gold Dots are very similar, using the same bullet. The only difference is the LE rounds have a slightly higher velocity.

Is the LE ammo available for civilian purchase? OD

I wonder if the 50fps difference is simply a reflection of the LE rounds being fired from a longer barrel?

Note the difference in barrel lengths. The 970 fps is from a 4" barrel and the 1020 is out of a 5" barrel.

To the best of my knowledge the PA State Police use the LE version of the Speer 200 gr GDHP. Thats what I use and carry in my G37/G38
I just picked up 5 boxes of Speer 185gr GDHP and I'm looking forward to seeing how they shoot for me on my next trip to the range.

Your choices for premium JHP's are:

    Speer
    Federal
    Winchester
    Remington
    Cor-Bon

Next week, when time permits, I'll make a spread sheet of .45GAP velocities and power factors. Right now I am carrying Federal LE 230's in my GAP's.
