That are basically dirt bikes that are street legal??

I was thinking about getting something for around the town trips now that gas is so $$$, and thought it might be cool to get something to take on the trails when I go camping.

Can they be gotten relatively cheaply? I don't think I need anything more that a 250, but haven't ridden since I was 12, so I really don't know what I'm talking about!

Dual-sports. Some are more dirt than street, and vise-a-versa. A good (modern) 250 will only set you back $2-3000. New bikes are more, obviously. They're a blast to ride. You'll love it!

Yeah those dual sports are even better on gas than most bikes. It would make a good commuter bike.

Dual Sport, or if you're old like me, Enduros.

I always thought of the "enduros" as the non-streel legal verisions, like the WR-450.

In my old age I recall Enduro bikes being either street legal or non-street legal.

Who knows, maybe I just have Alzhiemer's?

I have a Yamaha XT-600 and it is a blast. My next bike is going to be a Honda XR-400 with street legal light kit.

I had a street legal XR400. I remember it being one of the most fun around-town "street" bikes I've ever owned (or ridden!).

Somewhere there is a used XR650R calling my name...

I have a 1975 Honda MT250 Elsinore as my first bike, and just recently started riding it. Ive ridden it once, and never got out of first gear, and I already love it. This weekend I will be getting some more experience on it. I am already hooked on riding bikes...by next season I would like for this to be my main means of around town transportation.

    Tim,

I had a MT250 exactly like yours and it was an awesome bike. I wish I still had it. It ran better than most of the new bikes I have owned.
