What could possibly go wrong?

I caught this story on the radio this morning. Scientists developing a nasty string of bird flu that is capable of being transmitted between humans. Apparently they have gotten as far as successfully being able to get it to transfer between ferrets...with a 50% fatality rate...what could possibly go wrong? I guess I better consult the National Geographic "Doomsday Prepper" experts so that I can be assured there's no risk here.

"The resultwas a new germ that could pass through the air between ferrets and kill them —and ferrets are the laboratory stand-in for people."

And again I see a bunch of people with too much free time and money on their hands and I'm reminded of the old adage, 'just because you can do something doesn't mean you should do something'.
