what about the sniper ak in 7.62x54? I have read lots on the wasr, sar1 ect.
Are these ak in the largr round more accurate? How far can they shoot? my sar-1 really is only good up to 150 yards. eventhough the sight clam more.
    Is the ammo cheaper?
Are the mags hard to get?
I think they call it an SVD? Anywy just wanted to know what people though that have shot one or owned one.

    It's a Romanian made PSL.
Not even close to an SVD.
Ammo is about the same cost right now.
I love mine and might bite on a second one for $450ish from
    Centerfire systems.

Don't know what your definition of good is but your sar-1 should be capable of hitting individual man-sized targets at twice that distance. Sight graduation is a bit optimistic but it has its military uses, like when your target is a group of people.

Kalashnikov-designed weapon that uses AK action and is chambered in 7.62 x 54R is called PKM

Wouldn't call it a sniper rifle but wouldn't wanna stand 500 meters down the range from it.

An AK in 7.62x54R is the Romanian PSL-54C, it uses the same operating system as an AK.

The Dragunov SVD/SVDS series of rifles uses a different operating system than the AK.

The PK/PKM series of machineguns uses a different operating system than the AK.

Well, PKM comment was tongue in cheek. But do tell... :)

Goryunov feedtray slapped on a flipped over AK action. What am I missing?

The dragunov is a serious sniper weapon.

The AK versions are more like Designated Marksman Rifles - think accurate long range AK. Any AK sighted in and used properly with decent ammo is Very Good to 100 yds, Good to 150, capable of 200, and effctive out to maybe 300 or more.

Think of a PSL as maybe double each of those - with good ammo.

The 7.62x54 is a very sporty round! Think 7.62x51 with just a little more...but just a little. A Mosin will hit you at 300 and you don't want to be hit by it at all.
