I've always wanted a Sig 226. I was just wondering if this was worth it. It will be for range work home defense, and occasional carry. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=293431296 Or, am I better off buynig new? He is a local dealer who I can work with directly. $750 OTD. Thoughts?

Sounds like it's a CPO gun, with a refinishing job. Who knows what it was like prior to the work. $750 is a little steep.

750 is a little steep. I bought all four of mine for 550 or less in near mint condition. I got three of them at Cabelas used section for 425 and my fourth one which is a collectors piece imported by Interarms I paid 550 for on gunbroker in mint condition with box, papers, target, etc.

I would keep looking. If you need a shooter check out Sarco. They have nice used ones for 300-400 surplus.

    Goodluck!

$750 is way too high, keep looking and you should easily find a very nice one for $600 or less.

That price is a little high. I have a late 90s German P226 with front trit sight and about 1000 rounds through it and if I were going to sell it, I wouldn't expect to get more than about $600.00 for it. I think for one in good condition, expect to pay about that. The other thing is that if you buy an LE trade in gun, remember there's always shipping to consider and new springs. If you can change them yourself on a Sig, the cost of the springs themselves isn't that much. But if you can't, remember there's the cost of paying someone to do it. IMHO, for a used gun, it's always a good idea to replace the springs. Hope that is helpful.

If it were me I would look for a LE trade in, should be able to find one for $400-450. I was never really into worrying too much about finish wear, I know some people are though.

I just recently ran across a CPO P226 with 5 magazines for 650.00. Had I been in the market for P226 I would have scooped that one up!

I agree that $750 is high, even for a CPO. I paid $799 for my brand new P220 two years ago.

I always take up for the US made Sigs because I have three that have all been awesome guns. However, that is not for lack of love of the older German made guns.

Try Summit Gun Broker, they are currently out of CPO's but should get some in pretty quick. They run around $550, which is a good price. The CPO's are a great value.

Good luck, the 226 is a great gun.

$750 is way too much. I got a dead mint, early 90's P226 for $640.00 - with the box and everything.

Fantastic gun, though. You'll like it if you decide to add one to the collection.
