Well, I was in San Diego on business last week and made my way over to MCRD for the first time in 15 years or so. Man it was nice to actually be able to walk around and eye ball the area without someone smacking me in the head. I spent about 3 hours or so just wandering around and hitting the exchange for all the damn ooh rahh stuff to wear when I got home.

It is amazing how so much time has passed and I knew exactly where everything was, down to the chow hall, medical, receiving, both barracks from 1st and 3rd phase, and even the rack I slept in.

Just thought I would share with everyone. It was a great time.

    Semper Fi,

    Cool!

How was the weather while you were there? My nephew is starting his second week on the range tomorrow. I'm really looking forward to attending his graduation in November.

The weather was realy nice. About low 70's for the high. Couldn't ask for better weather.

That's cool. Someday before I get too old I want to go back and visit the Depot again. Sounds like a good time. Weird how when I was still in the Marines I didn't want to have anything to do with the place - now i wanna see it again.

Funny you ask, I actually did head over to one of the pits around MCRD and actually sat down for a second. I asked my brother in law (Marine Sgt) if he would mind if I "made it rain" and throw dirt on myself. Joking of course, but I did sit down for a bit in the pit behind the recruit exchange. Good times.

Not a whole hell of alot. Looked just the same as when I left in 1990. It was very strange.

The only thing I saw differnt was there were washing machines and dryers in huts between the barracks. That's it.

A few years ago I went back to MCRD Parris Island after having been away for about 25 years. No wood barracks at 1st Bn. . All else brought back a lot of memories. I'd like to go back again just to be brought up to date. :usmc: By the way, If I don't make it back to this site on Friday ......

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY

I was just there on Wed to see my son graduate. What a fantastic experience it was to be there. The Marine Corps does a great job welcoming the family members and the whole show is first class.

I was so excited to see my son graduate. He looked great, was in shape, walked light a proud man and didn't have that cheesey facial hair and hair mop. Fired expert, too. Can you tell I'm proud?

The commons where we were able to hang out was very nice, a bunch of stores and the food was excellent at the Bay View resturant on base. The DI's are real pros, too. I couldn't thank them enough.

A big Ohhh-RAH! from this new Marine parent.

My son was in Mike Co., plt 3045!

I was there too! My nephew was in the Honor Platoon 3042 of Mighty Mike!!!

I was so glad that so many of us could be there to show our support for those young Marines. That crowd was amazing. Check out this link for a quick report on how well we were treated by the people of San Diego.

    Bravo Zulu Marines! Semper Fi!

Thanks for the info....I saw this video...was waiting everyday until it was posted. My son is home on leave now but getting some time with him isn't so easy. Everybody is so proud of him and he is in high demand.

    He was in platoon 3045.

Here's my new Marine with one of his DI's!
