weight vest

Discussion in 'Strength & Conditioning' started by garythenuke, Jun 15, 2005.

  1. Hey Everyone,
Does anyone have experience building a weight vest? Even before I read Steve Justa's book "Rock Iron Steel", I hvae been interested in using weight vests. When I was a kid I had one that weighed about 20 pounds.
Now I want one that weighs about 100#. I looked on the internet and found a sight called weightvest.com . Unfortunately a 100# vest there costs $400.00. Now I am thinking about finding a surplus military load bearing vest and filling the pockets with lead shot.
Does anyone have any experience with load bearing "tactical" vests? I think I'll need one with a bunch of little pockets spread all over. Pockets on the front and rear shoulders, the chest, and all around the waist. How much lead does it take to get to 100#? I do not weld, and I do not have a super heavy duty sewing machine, so it will be very difficult to fabricate a vest myself.
Right now I am using my 90# concrete rock in an old back pack. I am too old for that stuff now. I cannot breathe well in it and it just binds. At my age I need more creature comforts.
If anyone can help, I will really appreciate it.
