Walmart ammo tracking without an iPhone/iPad

Discussion in 'Caliber Corner' started by Buckshot Barry, May 22, 2013.

  1. Ammo has been a little thin at my local Walmarts the last 7 days. I track it with my iPhone and iPad using the Walmart app. I got to thinking something might be up, even ran accross some online rumors, so I scheduled an early morning trip to the one Walmart I know that plays totally by the rules. They roll the cart out at 7:00 am sharp. Here is the info for 05/22/2013

Rumor had it that Walmart had lowered the limit to just 1 box per day. This Walmart still had the 3 box limit posted.

The Walmart app was spot on. Nothing received except for Federal Match Auto .22, 325 count boxes, just like the app indicated. It took an hour for the app to show out of stock after the 10 boxes were sold.

The shelves were bare of all the good stuff, just like the app indicated.

Here is the cool item. I found this script for use on computers / devices that can't run the iPhone app and it was spot on, including the hour it took the iPhone to show out of stock. Here is the link

You will need to change the Zipcode. Here are 2 more items I follow

You can get the product id's from the regular website. The line at the web page that reads "In stock status is approximate and was last updated on 05/19/2013 at 11:41 AM )" does not seem to be correct. It's a lot more current than that.

7 days? I haven't seen ammo on the shelf of my local Walmart one time yet this year.

And I haven't had any luck with that app either. So far now, every time it says "in stock", it hasn't been. And I'm tired of driving there for nothing.

  3. I've purchased about 5,500 rounds from Walmart since mid March. 22 RF, 9mm, 40, 5.56, and 7.62x39. Mostly 9mm. We have a lot of Walmarts in Metro Atlanta.

From what I gather, some folks get to the store at 7am and stand and wait in a line until 8am to buy what little they get at my local store. I have enough ammo stashed to know that I will NOT be one of those guys giving up my time and sleep. It will be nice once supply and demand return to the way it was last year, but it won't be until sometime after the 7am guys quit showing up.
  6. I can tell you somedays the line starts about 2 hours before the ammo cart is rolled out.

People get in line before the store opens at 6am at one of the local WM. I got there at 605 am and I was 8th in line at the ammo counter last week. Guy in front of me convinced the two guys in front of him to only get one box each as he needed some ammo. Then he bought the last three boxes leaving me empty handed.

Do all Walmarts stock ammo at 7A? I always get there at night.
  9. It depends on the store and manager on duty. Of my 2 closest, one is 7:00 am religiously, the other is right after it comes off the truck in the evening.

stopped at a WM on the north side of Houston this afternoon, plenty .40 (WWB and Federal), about 4 boxes of .45 ACP (WWB), Tula .223. WWB 7.62x39. looks like its getting better in spurts.

  11. You guys are having a good time with the amount of ammo that I've purchased from Walmart since March, so I decided to add it up tonight

    .22 RF - 975
    5.56 - 600
    7.62x39 - 60
    9mm - 4,300
    .40 - 50
    Total 5,985

    Just remember:

"IN STOCK" means that they probably currently have a fair supply.

"LOW STOCK" means they're down to practically nothing so you better step on it.

I got 3 boxes of 9mm the other day after reading the "in stock". They had about one case on the shelf...3 box limit. Problem was it was only the 50 rnd boxes, but it was the first I'd seen there in a couple of months. It was gone the next day.

In Your #1 post, You searched for 3 different ammo's. Those are not what I use. How do I change the stock number to what I want to look for?

  16. You need the product ID number. So for this link the product ID number is 16783170

Once you have that you can just replace it in

So the new link would be

Our local WM has a policy where if you call the department manager during the day of the shipment, she will tell you what will be on the truck at night. Then, around 6:00, the ammo comes out to a line of folks who all called in that day. Nobody else in the store "can" have that information. There is no more morning selling of ammo.

At least it's a system that works and you don't compete with the retired folks with time on their hands.

I have no luck using these apps or sites. Any time it says in stock, it never is -- I give up! Been trying since January and have never had success.
