So I just moved down here from the peoples republic of Massachusetts. I have a Mass firearms licence but it is restricted to sporting (no fault of my own just a jerk sheriff). Do I have to retake a CCW course to get my licence down here or will my mass licence carry over?

Only one way to find out, go down to the courthouse and ask. Seeing how lax our requirements are, any state's cwp should count as "competency with a handgun".

It's Virginia - if you can spell your name correctly (within a character or two) you should be good to go.

  5. If you have a copy of your training certificate and your course was taught by a state or NRA certified instructor you should be good to go.

Or to be on the safe side you could take an online course.
