Hi folks. I'm having video issues and want to replace my card. My PC is a Dell XPS-400 bought in August of '06. It came with a GeForce 7900 which developed memory issues and I replaced it with a BFG Tech GeForce 8600 GT 512 in Jan. '08. This is for a PCI Express x16 slot. All the new cards are PCIe 2.0 or 2.1. Going by date, I assume my motherboard slot is for PCIe 1.1 but I can't find anything to verify that. The Dell manual just says PCI Express x16. My question is, if I buy a PCIe 2.0 or 2.1 card will it be back compatible with my motherboard? Will it function as advertised? I'm thinking a 2.0 card will only run at 1.1 specs if, in fact, it is a 1.1 slot. ALSO, if I may, what chip sets and manufacturers do you like? What would you recommend for a replacement? Most of what we do is on my wife's iMac now. I use this PC for astronomy software and fairly light gaming. COD 2 Silent Hunter 4 Doom 3 MS Flight Simulator X Mostly old stuff. Thanks!
