Value of I fired Bushmaster?

Discussion in 'Black Rifle Forum' started by PAGunner, Oct 14, 2012.

  1. My father has an unfired Bushmaster A3, carry handle version that is NY compliant, he bought it in NY back in 2009 for $1,100 it's in pristine condition. He wants to sell it after holding my new Colt 6920MP-R with EXPS3-0 on it.

So I am going to help him sell it, but I'm not sure what kind of money he can fetch for his current AR?

Is he still in NY? I see you’re in Florida. You guys are going to take a big hit selling a ban compliant gun in a normal state.

  5. He's in Florida, I was thinking of trying to sell it on gunbroker, as you eluded to, the market for that particular gun is somewhat limited.

a ban complient rifle is worth considerably less than a rifle with all the evil features in states where you're free to buy whatever your heart desires. you can buy a brand new SW M&P sport for as little as 600 bucks and NIB stags sell for about 850 so why would anyone pay that for a used AR15 that's been neutered<sp? unless you can move the BM in NY or another ban state you're going take a huge loss on it. I'd say the rifle MIGHT be worth 800 in a ban state and 600 in a free state. your fathers best bet is to keep the BM and save up for the colt.

I'd say he should expect 500 bucks tops. It's a used gun to a buyer.

Send it off and get it changed to real setup. Adco can help you out for a couple hundred.

If you can manage to sell it to a NY buyer, 600 if you luck out. The prices have fallen on a lot of the budget AR market stuff

Best bet would be to reconfigure the Bushy to what he wants.
Either a new complete upper to a barrel swap & a carbine stock
    and He's there.

Its got all the politically correct NY compliant stuff in a non-politically correct state.

Your dad would be dollars to donuts ahead of the game if he just bought the parts to convert it to the configuration he wants and have it done locally. There's no magic involved with screwing on an AR barrel or changing things around with stocks or handguards etc. Plus if he modifies the Bushy he can go with a mid-length gas system instead of the 6920's carbine length system. Lots of reasons to prefer the midlength system over the 6920 IMO...

Sell the upper for whatever you can get out of it and visit BCM to get the set-up he wants. In the end you'll spend less money and have the ability to really customize the upper to what he wants.

A lot of good advise above. The NY setup on the rifle is going to narrow the market quite a bit, so it's going to take a hit off the value so his best bet would be to just get a different upper. The hit he would take from selling the whole gun and buying another whole gun will probably greater than him buying the upper and keeping the lower. He could sell the old upper and get some money for it and take less of a hit.
  13. Thanks, I'm gonna try and get him to sell the upper and purchase a BCM upper. How much do you think he can get for the upper?
