    Age: 43
    Tour: 19 years
    Badge # Not available
    Military veteran
    Cause: Gunfire
    Incident Date: 11/17/2011
    Weapon: Gun; Unknown type
    Suspect: One in custody

    Officer James Capoot was shot and killed while pursuing bank-robbery suspects after a high-speed chase. Officer Capoot pursued the suspect vehicle through a residential area, where Officer Capoot executed a PIT maneuver and disabled the suspect vehicle. Officer Capoot pursued the suspect on foot and was shot several times in the back yard of a residence.

    Officer Capoot was transported to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, where he succumbed to his wounds.

    Officer Capoot was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, and served with the California Highway Patrol before joining the Vallejo Police Department.

    One suspect was arrested near the scene. Several neighboring agencies are participating in the search for a possible second suspect.

    Officer Capoot is survived by his wife and three daughters.

    I worked with Jim at VPD, but didn't know him too well, as I was only there a year or so.

    He was a great guy. A big guy. Always had a smile on his face. Former Marine and former CHP officer. His Dad was a Copper in Little Rock, AR.

    Officer James L. Capoot #497 was fatally shot today while trying to apprehend a suspected bank robber.

    • Vallejo Police Department 1992-2011

    o 1994 Medal of Courage (engaging a suspect armed with an AK-47)
    o 1997 Medal of Courage (engaging an armed suspect)
    o 2000 Vallejo Police Officer of the Year
    o 2002 Medal of Merit (School Safety Patrol)
    o 2002 Life Saving Medal (rendering CPR to an injured motorist)
    o 2002 Good Conduct Medal (3 consecutive outstanding evaluations)
    o 2 Letters of Commendation

    • Formerly held positions in both the Motor Unit and SWAT

    Officer Capoot is survived by his wife, three daughters and his mother.

    :fallenofficer: RIP, according to local media, suspect brought down by stun gun,laser, as he was breaking into a house, there was no second suspect according to the news....
