I have a Micro$oft optical trackball. Probably four or five years old. I also have about a two month old Toshiba notebook running Win XP Pro. I have had an error pop up that the trackball is not recognized and the USB ports appear dead quite a few times. Sometimes all I have to do is unplug and replug and the trackball is recognized. Occasionally I have to reboot to get it to work. Yesterday, I couldn't get it to work at all. Today, it had power but wasn't recognized. Rebooted and no problems. I also have a USB printer that has never once gave a problem. This leads me to believe the problem is in the trackball. I am thinking the connector on the trackball is going bad? Is that likely? Or would it be the cord? How hard is it to repair either? I haven't looked but they probably don't sell my trackball anymore so I don't want to loose it as I love it.
