I was thinking of buying a Colt govt. 1911 in .22 cal. This is the gun made by Walther and imported for Colt by Umarex. 1911 style guns are very easy to shoot and when getting my grand kids and my wife interested in shooting I thought this gun would be a good place to start. Do you know anything about the quality of this weapon? Thanks for any help.

Couldn't tell ya, bro. Haven't shot the Umarex. Nor have I yet had a chance to shoot the scaled down 1911 .22 from Browning, which sounds as if it might be even better for junior shooters. Had great luck with the Kimber .22 though, if that's any help, and found the Chiappa to work so long as it's cleaned every 100 rounds or so as the manufacturer recommends. A Marvel or Ciener .22 conversion unit on a regular 1911 is an option, too.

Best of luck with the junior shooters,
