The photos violated local laws protecting religious feelings and the two women and man were sentenced to six months in jail, which was suspended for five years by a magistrate in the southern town of Galle on Tuesday.

Wow, you hurt my feelings, boo hoo! The frightning part is people here would gladly see legislation link this passed. In fact anti-blasphemy legislation has been proposed before (thank the 1A for them not gaining traction).

Why does a belief in an imaginary friend without evidence automatically require respect? This reminds me of the Saudi Journalist who faced death for tweeting that he would not bow to Mohammed, but shake his hand as an equal.

Symbols are important and serve a purpose for groups. I see absolutely no reason we should not take them seriously and protect them.

When are people going to stop trying to get attention by insulting symbols that are important to others? French rednecks.

Dearborn has a concentration of these people. The frightening part is that 'liberals' gladly support these people:wow:, notwithstanding 9/11, the Armenian Genocide, the Koran's words commanding 'slay the infidel', and history's lesson showing that we Westerners didn't take Hitler (a kindred spirit) seriously until it was too late.

Hey, 'das ist gut'. Getting a little culture, learning foreign languages.

But you've still got to work on that 'dumkopf' thing, you know, supporting Hitler proxies who bow towards Mecca 5 times a day. You DID know that the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, a Jew-hating Muslim, who raised a whole regiment of Muslim SS men, was Hitler's closest ally, didn't you? And that Hitler's book, 'Mein Kampf', is still a best-seller in Islamic lands, that many Muslims think of Hitler as a 'brother' because of his Holocaust of Jewish people, and that Hitler admired to the point of copying, Islam's methods, especially the Armenian Genocide?

This thread is about Sri-Lanka and Buddhist intolerance. Can we set the islamaphobia aside for a moment and talk about something else?

On topic, the French tourists were stupid to mock a locally important religious symbol (when in Rome, etc), but six months seems excessive. At least they suspended it.

My guess is many folks here don't know the difference. Buddhism, Sikhism, Hinduism, Islam ... All just brown people who worship Allah. Lmao.

For further reference, see Wisconsin Sikh Temple shooting a few weeks back. You think these types are rare?

They're certainly a lot rarer than crowds of Allahu-akbarers who kill over cartoons.

These Buddhists were pretty restrained, IMHO. The referenced tourists were quite disrespectful, but only got fined about $10, plus a suspended sentence. The disrespectful tourists were likely cut from the same arrogant lefty atheist cloth as the 'artist' who dunked a crucifix in urine and called it "art". While these acts are protected free speech in the West (and don't get me wrong. I am adamantly opposed to any anti-blasphemy laws; those are just a front to legitimize blood-soaked sharia here), they are bad manners. Buddhist-based martial arts promote good manners and respect, including self-respect. Have you noticed how well-disciplined Asian kids tend to excel in tough academics such as math and science? These disrespectful tourists were likely spoiled as kids; their mothers were likely lefties who didn't believe in spanking.

If your maw didn't teach you good manners, then maybe you deserve to have to shell out 10 bucks.

    Here is the problem:

    http://www.lankaliberty.com/

They are trying to mix the state and religion. Even Bhudists can't be peaceful when they collude with the government.

And why did the Muslims in the Middle East align themselves with Germany? Could it be because the British had invaded their countries and had been herding them around like farm animals for over a century?

Did you know that the Koran teaches hatred of non-Muslims, especially of Jews?

Did you know that that is because Mohammed himself hated Jews because they wouldn't convert to his new cult?

Hitler made no secret of his hatred of Jews. This is what attracted Muslims to his cause.

The question now is, why does our left support hateful Islam? The left is not self-aware enough to see how their ideology has painted them into a neo-Nazi corner today.

    Yes, I know.

And the fact they had been exploited and treated like farm animals by the British had nothing to do with it? Until the end of WWII the Christians didn't treat the Jews very well either. The Nazis would have gladly shipped the Jews somewhere else, but no one would take them. That's why the survivors took back Israel and admits Jews from anywhere.

It doesn't. Why do you think it does?

You don't know the difference between the political left and the political right. The USSR was more brutal towards the Muslims than anyone. Once again, you're mixing religion and politics.

Did you know your bible preaches hatred of other religions? In fact it commands you to kill non-believers! It commands you to kill anyone who would suggest you follow another god! Heck, it even commands you kill disobedient children.

Maybe you should read your own book before critisizing another.

Are you mad because they won't join your cult?

Hitler was a Catholic. Catholics hated Jews for centuries. Have you ever read of blood libel? The Catholic Church taught Jews had to drink the blood of christian children. Have you read about the inquisition? All the torture and death to ferret out "hidden jews". That much is true, however I don't think the muslims and Catholics teamed up because of a mutual hatred of Jews. That is a silly notion.

show me where the left supports hateful islam? How do you make the leap from left wing, to The Nazi's? Nazi's were not left wing, they were right wing. Neo-Nazi's today are not left wing, they are ultra right wing.

Well, I'll say this much for you. This post is better than your famous "Fish!!!"

But it still fails to address the urgent matter of 19,493 deadly Muslim attacks, just since 9/11, as of today.

That's a bad question for your side of the argument - even christians are aware that there are mountains of dead bodies. Crusades to witch trials to Spanish Inquisition to all variety of religiously motivated wars.

Here's is a page that is probably put together by a nut, but is filled with many, many links to historic information that answers your question.
