My guess would be to call Para with the SN and they could probably tell you?

a bit of a newbie on 1911's here, how can one tell if the recoil springs need replacement? I am picking up a 2nd hand 1911 and though the springs doesnt feel light to me, the owner doesnt really know how much shooting he's had but thinks is probably 5k or less.

Should I be replacing then all springs, i.e. hammer, firing pin and recoil?

for a used gun, i'd replace the recoil and firing pin spring, since they are the springs that wear most.

the mainspring and sear spring should be OK still.

I'd make sure you get some new mags springs, those mags have signifcant problems from the factory that seem to be cured by Wolff springs.

Para isn't known for great service. Not terrible like some others, but not great either.

Many thanks for all your helpful inputs. Much appreciated. I cant wait to get it and try it out on the range.

I've heard so many stories about Para's customer service that I do not want to be a victim of their poor service so I have held off picking up the phone to call them and I have hoped that there is a website that determined manufacture date based on the serial number, similar to glocks, where one can find out a month and year of manufacture.

If you've heard multiple stories, I'm curious as to why you'd still purchase one? They really aren't quality at the price point they demand and there's a reason everyone has to use their CS. If you want a double stack go STI, buy once..... cry once.
