It's happening faster than I thought.
Those are not in "test" phase.
I have seen them in European (Swiss) McDonalds for about 4 or 5 years.
I was in Barcelona last week and the airport MCDonald's already has self service ordering.
Does is get my order correct?
Does it spit in my food?
It might if you piss it off, but it'll be lubricating oil that it spits...
Never mind that - does it speak English?
It has pictures for you...
No biggee...grease is grease!
I wonder if these kiosks could actully work better than a cashier. But it seems the people at the register also make and pour the beverages and put the fries into a bag or box and put the order into a bag. I imagine some or much of that could also be automated but I wonder at what cost.
Yep, unskilled labor will price themselves out of a job! Obamacare will cause this too.
So is this the place where they tested the superheated coffee?
Ive seen drive through with automatically filling soda on a belt

Interesting times coming. When those low wage workers become full time no wage workers the burden in going to increase on those who pay taxes. Which will cause some of them to quit paying taxes when they lose their jobs or just give up and join the herd. I believe the term is death spiral. If the government would keep out it could be a good thing in the long run, constructive destruction as it were, one business folds, another opens to take advantage of an opportunity. But the government makes it harder for people to do anything and less likely to risk anything so most likely the welfare rolls will just build. There are limits to that and the longer you put off the accounting the harder it is going to be.
In the year 2525, if man is still alive
If woman can survive, they may find
In the year 3535
Ain't gonna need to tell the truth, tell no lie
Everything you think, do and say
Is in the pill you took today
In the year 4545
You ain't gonna need your teeth, won't need your eyes
You won't find a thing to chew
Nobody's gonna look at you
In the year 5555
Your arms hangin' limp at your sides
Your legs got nothin' to do
Some machine's doin' that for you

We have those at a local chain of quick stop stores called Buckees. They are pretty cool, you can start filling up your tank, order your breakfast taco from the pump area while you do it and then go get your taco after you are filled up.
I work in the food and beverage industry, you might be surprised what can be done.
Mostly automated equipment got all the ingredients "made" that are in the store. One more piece of equipment to put them together isn't that far off.
I've only had one Buckees experience but it was really neat. I didn't need fuel when I went there so I've not seen the order entry capacity of the pumps. Wish they'd bring those north of the Red...QuikTrip needs some competition here in the Tulsa area.
I give myself credit for this - I see my campaign of posting a demand for self-service ordering at fast food restaurants, particularly McDonald's, every time the minimum wage increase is mention in the press or on Facebook has finally paid off.
