How are the M&P's compared to Glock? Good and bad attributes appreciated. The PPQ is also on the short list. I can't remember if I tried out the shield when I rented one for my GF to try out. She eventually settled on an XDS. Shhhhhh, don't tell her but it doesn't feel good in my hand but she likes it. Never tried a full size XD either. I am going to sell a USP 40 that is sitting around collecting dust so I want to get something new. I have an unfired STI Sentry hopefully I will be able to get some trigger time on this weekend but just feeling the need for a new plastic gun other than Glock.
For polymer framed handguns... (for me) Glock is #1 and the M&P series is #2. They are great handguns. You definitely won't regret it. Swap out the trigger for an APEX 1st thing and thats that.
ETA: I wouldn't sell off any Glocks for it :******: but i would buy one 4sure.
nylaw, Uh, Yes Sir it surely does. :wow: Only thing, I could buy 2 Gen4 G21's and a Gen4 G41. That's what I did. You could always get a full-tilt FNX 45 Tactical with and RMR..
First Polymer framed semi-auto ever purchased was a Glock.
Over the years bought several glocks (all sizes and several calibers)
Eventually sold all Glocks to "try" other manufacturers.
Bought S&W M&Ps (several sizes and calibers)....sold S&W M&Ps.
Bought a couple of Springfield XDs (medium frame .45 and XD-S .45)....sold Springfield XDs.
Recently bought a Glock 30SF....Planning to buy a couple more Glocks!
I went full circle and have ended up back with Glocks. Nothing wrong with the S&W or Springfield pistols, just nothing handled and shot like my Glocks. It really is a personal choice! I don't regret the path I took, but I am glad I have a Glock again!!
I have no desire to replace any of my Glock's but I have been looking at a M&P 40c just as a extra toy. One thing for me is trying to get over the gritty trigger pull it has and also I have a problem with having to spend money of a trigger job right out of the box when a Glock is perfect right out of the box ya I know some will say different.
Anyways I have a Sig SP2022 in 40, If I can sell that I think I'll buy the M&P 40c anyways and it does feel good in my hands.
If you want an M&P you definitely won't go wrong by getting one. I've had them and Glocks and I still swap back and forth without being able to decide which I like more lol.
The trigger on the Glock is better, but the M&P trigger feel is not as noticeable in live fire as it is when you're dry firing it at home so I wouldn't let that be a deal breaker.
I have an M&P Shield and I enjoy it. However, I will note that it lacks the 'fit and finish' of my Glocks. First thing I noticed were sharp edges from a poor/unfinished molding process around the S&W logo - kept scratching my side while IWB. Took my knife and sandpaper to it, which seemed to work. There was another one around the magazine well that I had to attend to. It's definitely a different trigger feel, but I do actually like the Shields trigger quite a bit.
My Glocks definitely 'feel better' in my hand. I know, very subjective, but thats the only way I can describe it.
I have a full size M&P 9mm and a Shield 9mm. Both have run well for me and I like their grip angle much better than Glock.
Also have a Walther PPQ and P99AS. Wonderful pistols.
I have 13 SIGs that live in the safe.
Now my Heckler & Koch P30 V3 and P2000 V3 get shot and carried all the time. Simply the best production pistols out there with no issues. Search the internet gun vendors and you can often find a brand new P30 for $800 or less. To me a HK is worth every penny spent on one. Bill
I really like the USP also but to be honest once I bought the HK45 I haven't had the desire to shoot the USP. I know it's me and probably doesn't make sense but it is what it is. I also have a 27 so I get my 40 desire from that. The range I go to has a large selection of rentals so I am hoping they have a PPQ there. As some of you said the Shield didn't feel good in your hand, the Xd's feels the same to me. I will shoot one mag and hand it back to her.
A not so great trigger out of the box that can be fixed up isn't a deal breaker for me. People buy new cars change the rims and tires, radio etc etc. Same difference. My STI trigger makes all the plastic guns feel like crap anyway.
If you're looking for something similar but yet a little different (but still good) consider a newer double stack M&P. They seemed to have gotten over most of the problems inherent in their first few yrs of production. Glock, on the other hand, took their world beater gen 3 guns and "improved" them by putting in a bunch of crap MIM parts that cause brass to face, etc, etc.
I may have bought my last Glock and am now amassing an M&P collection.
