Seems everyone has their pet peeve in the coming election, this kind of stuff is mine.
The difference between then and now:

Not to worry you OP, but the only time a POTUS can implement an executive order is when the Constitution, including the Bill of Rights, has been suspended. Abraham Lincoln was the first POTUS to do such a thing.
