    I'll start:

They're a biker gang that never talks about bikes. They might as well be getting around from place to place in Toyota Corollas. I'm no "biker" but I worked summers in college on 3rd shift in a factory (Crown Cork & Seal in Winchester VA) with some dudes who wore the vests, the patches, etc. and I'd follow them out to a bar once in a while at 7am when we got off work for some morning drinking, shooting pool, some additional activities. And with the exception of intoxicants and female anatomy, those guys NEVER stopped talking bikes. NEVER.

I could list dozens more ... but I've had my turn. Go.

I think you are forgetting that SOA is a TV show, and therefore not responsible for being accurate in real life....

    anyway...

    lets see....

The OMG Deals guns from the IRA to the Mexican drug lords who are actually CIA Operatives, but when the "Heat" gets to serious they decide to deal guns to the local Mexican gang that provides protection to the local escort service, but has time to off a few white supremacists and stuff a bunch of illegal guns in the white supremacists house to make it look like a gun deal gone bad coincidentally the same type of guns used in a school shooting that.....

ok my head hurts now, sort of like watching Days of our lives with my wife in bed....

NO, I'm not forgetting that. I turn off the reasoning center of my brain when the show is on and all is well. But TV show or not, for all the attention it gets from middle-aged guys like me with boring paycheck lives, it is like you said ... just a stupid soap-opera.

    Now, keep going ...

Yep. I have noticed that. I assume it's because most of the audience has neever been on a motorcycle and talking about them all the time would turn people off and the show wouldn't have made it past season 1.

If you read some of the Barger and Thompson books, you realize just how far down the hierarchy the bikes really were. In this one sense, "SOA" is rather accurate. HH

Maybe. Bike guys do talk about bikes though, at least once in a while.

Ok, everyone's getting hung up on the first example. How bout this one:

Local pediatric surgeon is the old lady of the local biker gang's President, and will occasionally toke on some reefer outdoors, particularly if offered to her by the retired police chief.

OH OH I got another one,

Shooting a pistol on a bike backwards and scoring hits too, meanwhile the guys chasing the guy on the bike, in a car and the passenger can't hit the broadside of a barn....

Hell, not just Thompson and Barger. Read any of the books written by club members, UC cops that were in clubs or about club members that became informants. Very little chatter about motorcycles in motorcycle clubs when taken as a whole.

But then again, SOA feature full fledged gunfights on public streets with tons of witnesses that, apparently, go unsolved or not even investigated.

Have you ever attended a private party hosted by either LEOs or MDs? If so, you'll know the combination of the two is simply epic. HH

It is not even a good show. Watch something worthwhile. Just a bunch of nonsense violence and egos. It is totally a soap opera.

A thing that gets me on the show is the motorcycles. Everybody's bike looks almost alike. If you ride a Harley, you know that individualizing the bike is the one thing no Harley owner can resist. You would never see a real group of bikers, MC or otherwise, looking like their black Harley dynas just got dropped off a truck from the factory. Even the non-Harley touch of T-bars and Ness style fairings is the same on every bike.

At least now that have some denim black street glides, so there are 2 types of identical, almost factory stock bikes.

Hell, that's the most believable part of the show.

I don't know, the Bobby Munson character rode a custom rigid springer for a couple seasons and Juice now has Liberace's bike so..........

  14. Their Harleys never break down and they never stop at bars to just sit and drink. Although the do dress up like gay pirates.

I've tried to watch the show a few times, but I haven't made it through a show yet. A soap opera is exactly what I think of it.

In their defense Norm Stamper turned into a pothead when he retired.

Being set in San Joaquin county they are missing out by not using
Monte McFall and Baxter Dunn as plot points.

Explaining it as a soap opera for middle age men explains a lot. It puts The Shield in perspective.

  17. I enjoy it. If it were a documentary and depicted the daily life of the average 1%'er, it would be boring. It's glorified fiction based loosely on reality. I'm anxious to see this Tuesday's episode. Tara's weaved herself a wicked web.

I've never seen a club biker ever wear squeaky clean white Tennis shoes. WTH is with that. Not to mention farings on most all of the bikes. IN S. Cali for crap sakes. But it's still the only drama, 'Shootemup' show I watch.

Its proven once again, if something is popular and well liked, the GNG experts will hate it only because its popular. These threads are almost as good as the fast food threads.
