I live in Florida and have the respective florida concealed carry permit, however my family also has a vacation home in Tennessee that is visited many times a year. My question is, is there a way to obtain a Tennessee Handgun Carry permit, to be able to open carry in Tennessee, being a Florida resident?

Looks like from the reciprocity page that they recognize any valid permit from another state when you are visiting.

    However:

Your permit is just as valid here as in Florida. Take a look at the reciprocity link for the details.

    Doh ?
    From my understanding:

Tennessee does not allow a person to carry a firearm "with intent to be armed" without a permit.

The Tennessee permit is a "Handgun Carry Permit" (HCP). It (in general*) doesn't include other (non-handgun) weapons. But is is not a "concealed carry permit" either. It is legal to carry a handgun openly (but not brandishing) or concealed with a valid Tennessee HCP or state permit with reciprocity.

Depending upon your location, and other circumstances, you may attract attention from the general public and/or law enforcement if using the OC provision in Tennessee.

*Long guns may be carried loaded in a vehicle with ammunition in the magazine, but not in the chamber (unless physically threatened), provided the carrier has a valid TN HCP.

Thank you guys for the info, however i was more looking for the provision of being able to OPEN carry. I know tennessee is one of the reciprocity states.I don't think that with my CWL from florida i would be able to open carry in tennessee.

  8. +1 on this. Good Post. And I'll second the caveat about open carry in Tn. Really could tangle you up. Just keep it concealed, and you know u r gtg...
