Im asking because theres one at my local gun shop that iv been looking at. Its priced at 768+taxes(820total), and sitting next to it is a flat top bushy with carry handle, bcg and handle for 660+taxes.

From my understanding and what iv learned is that SW is Stag parts with SW logo on them. But the kid behind the counter was no help on either of them. If you google SW mp15 upper, you dont get a lot of price info on them.

Id like to put my money into a decent upper, parts, etc. Both SW and Stag are big names in the gun world. And theres a hand full of decent uppers in the 500-700 dollar price range(BCM, Stag, CMMG, RRA, Bushmaster, DPMS). Would cheaper upper be better in this case? If im paying more for a logo, id really like to avoid wasting my money like that.

  3. That is a much better deal than the SW. In fact, this is a great price! I noticed that the RRA includes the chrome lined barrel and chamber, an option which RRA normally charges an additional $40. When you pick the chrome lined upgrade with RRA you can also chose between a 1:9 or 1:7 twist at no addtional cost.

SW makes them in house. i think the first 5000 or so were Stag.
the barrels are made by T/C

    i just bought a complete M&P-15 yesterday from a friend for $700 :)

ok well thank you for sharing your info. I just can't figure out why he's got them so high. Understandable that we live in Alaska and shipping isn't always the cheapest. Anyways thank you again

As a one time M&P15 owner who reasearched the whole Stag making the M&P15 thing, this is what i've found out about complete rifles. S&W now makes everything in house...anything under serial#55,000, the upper was made by Stag, lower made by S&W. I had heard of some feeding trouble with the Stag uppers, but the problem seemed to go away when S&W made the whole rifle themselves. The rifle I had ran flawlessly, serial#82,xxx. I would think that those uppers were made in house.

Actually the feeding problem was when S&W took it over. They fixed it. The Stag built guns were good.

The current Stag guns are very good. In my opinion, they give the high dollar boys a run for their money for a lot less investment.

Cheapest M&P15 is $930 before tax and fees and the M&P15A is $950 before tax and fees. I wish I can find one for $700.

just my opinion. put shop owners do not always like when people come in and say "Hey, I can buy this online..........." a lot of time I used to and know others that do reply with :Great, that is a good price, go buy it online".......Just remember, he paid shipping to get the upper, he has overhead of a retail location that the online dealers may not have. did he get it new from S&W or is it a consignment he is selling for someone else who wants X amount of money. lots of factors there. if you go in and ask if he can do a better price, do not insult him with the "I can buy this online for" line......that is just my .02 cents worth.

S&W are OK uppers. but I do not get excited about uppers anymore. I can usually build my own for the same or less and I know what quality I have and it will be just how I want it to be.
