Last night a good friend of mine offers me his almost new STI RANGER II .40 on a straight trade for a M&P .40 Compact, he says that he hates de STI because of the weight, he cannot carry all day long and the STI ends on a drawer.
He will accept my M&P which is new and I never carried or use.

What do you think of the Ranger?
I really like it but I never had a .40 1911 is this gun reliable?

Jump all over that its about twice the retail of the M&P..
Even if you don't like it you can sell it all day for 800 used.

Yes I know is worth the trade, but what's your opinion on the Ranger II .40?
    Reliable?
    Fun?
    MecGar mags work fine?
    Any opinions?

I have owned A 45 ranger awesome gun fun reliable .. I never had a 40 but with STI they will make it right if you have issues great to carry and accurate.

  5. I've had two 1911s in .40, one Springfield (1911A1 (before the GI model)), and one Kimber CDP (full size). Neither one really impressed me, but STI has a great reputation, and currently offers more than one model in .40, so I'd expect they build a better gun in .40 S&W.

I have a pair of Ranger IIs, but they're in .45 and 9mm. It's a very good pistol and assuming it runs the same in .40 as the other two chamberings you should be very happy with it.

The others are right that STI will take care of you. Their pistols have lifetime warranties. I toured their factory last week, and the warranty department only had about 12-18 pistols in there. That's a good sign for someone turning out thousands of guns a year.

Unbelievably good trade for you. I'd jump alllllll over that.

  9. I've still got 5 boxes of .40 ammo from the last time I thought I'd like one... send me the pistol and I'll find out if it's "reliable".
